I went with the D as it worked best for me but I think both are really similar if I'm honest.

My understanding is that the M and D grinds themselves are essentially the same, but the D grind comes with a higher bounce (12*) than the M grind options (8* and 10*). So it really just depends on your bounce preference.

This is a good question which, in my opinion, is answered by looking at all of your wedges. Personally I like to carry 4 wedges to allow myself to hit more full shots. Also, it allows me to have different bounces depending on course conditions. The most simple solution for you, IMO, is to get a high bounce in you sand wedge and a low bounce in you lob wedge. I think 8 is low enough. For me, 4 degrees just dug too much. That will allow you to hit those high shots around the green when you want to. And when it’s really wet, just chip with the high bounce sand wedge that won’t dig into the ground (mine is 14 degrees of bounce. You won’t need to hit it as high when it’s wet bc the ball will check (or just land softer bc it’s wet). Hope this helps

I am a simple layman when it comes to all the technology in club fitting. I simply enjoy playing the game, so I rely on the specialist who do this for a living. I go to a fitter to put me in a club that can improve my game and that feels right. So this spring when TT put together the Vokey experience at Pinehurst I jumped on the bandwagon and went up to see Mr Vokey and his team to be fitted for a new wedge based on their expertise. Told them my problems and what I would like to achieve. Came home with a beautiful 58.12* D and it has been a game changer for me, out of the sand, around the green and at short distances from the fairway. Bob Vokey put his stamp of approval on this wedge and that is good enough for me. Not everyone can get this kind of service, but point being, got to a specialist and get the right shaft and club head for YOU. We had it stamped with all those "z"s and I call it my sleeper club for a reason.

Once a digger, always a digger. Pick the grind that suits that kind downswing.

I've made the mistake of (briefly) trying a couple of M-grind wedges and even though I don't think of myself as a "digger" they sure made me look like one.

For me the D-grind was the best thing added to the Vokey lineup in years and years. In a lob wedge, it lets you have a wide sole with plenty of bounce that isn't tricky to open or play toe-down. Best of all worlds.

I can't imagine you'd have any trouble picking shots cleanly with a 60.12D, it doesn't sit as high off the ground as a K-grind or something. Probably a safer bet all around if "digging" is ever an issue for you.

Definitely get fit, but I do love my 60 M.

I'm not a super digger, but I do take a nice divot. The grass grows better if you can just put back the nice piece you removed. ;-)

I have a M grind and took a demo D grind out for a practice round. For me they play almost the same but I found the D was a little better out of the bunker.

If your a digger and conditions at your home course are generally softer, then I would definitely consider a wedge with a little more bounce, as it helps the club come back out of the ground easier so the wedge does not get stuck. The best thing to do is go hit both and see which one you like. But make sure to pay attention to that problem, if the M grind gets stuck in the ground and you cannot get through the dirt easily, definitely consider the D grind or something with more bounce.

I'm a "shotmaker" so the M grind works better for me. I use 58-08M as a sand wedge. I've tried a 60-12D (bent to 58) and it is fine out of sand but so-so off turf. In San Diego, bunker conditions can vary from hole to hole even. I can do digging shots off hard lies with the M grind and sliding shots off soft lies.

I either use a 58-08M (57*) or a 54-10S + 58-08M (59*) depending on course conditions.

I've gotten hooked on the K-grind. It started with a SM7 58-14, which I bought on eBay mainly because it was a screaming deal on an essentially unused club. The 14* bounce and width of the sole initially "spooked" me so the club sat. In early August on a whim I tried some chipping on my front lawn with the club and was amazed at how easy it was to hit. Subsequently tried it out of a practice bunker and was sold on the design. It became my primary lob wedge.

I since picked up a WedgeWorks 54-16K second hand and am sold on the design. Bounce is truly your friend if you learn how to use it correctly within your swing type!

Dont sleep on the S-tricker grind!

I was fitted for the 58.12D with a Nippon 950 R300 shaft at the Vokey event in the spring and a great addition to my bag. Use it out of the sand and from 65 yards in the fairway. Great club for my game. I am a picker.

I agree with previous posts, that bounce is much more important than grind. Based on your play, determine which bounce works best for your game, and then go from there.
