  1. hey guys this is my second season playing trying to get better to match up with my brothers skill level. I got interested in golf when he took me to the driving range in florida while on vacation. My first season I mostly worked on my grip, stance, and swing. This season I am working on distance and fixing my horrible right slice. I would appreciate any tips, tricks, or even better anyones practices they do while on the range to prepare before heading out to the course.

Hi Kaden! I recommend checking out our Learning Lab, specifically the Improve Your Game section. There are lots of instructional videos there that may be helpful in finding ways to improve your game.

I have linked the Learning Lab below. I also linked a video on "A Foolproof Drill to Cure Your Slice":

    Good luck!

I would also recommend having a pro take a look at that swing and he/she will be able to give you some tips on correcting your faults. Very difficult to give you a tip without seeing your set up, alignment and swing.

It's great to hear that you're getting more into the game. I believe you have the correct mindset with establishing the foundations of golf like grip and stance.

To be honest, this is probably not the best forum for golf swing instructions as a "slice" as you describe it, can be a product of many things, so it would be difficult to suggest anything unless we could see what is producing the slice...even then, a one swing video is just that, one swing, and I could tell you that during this early stage of your golf career, establishing a consistent swing is tricky. The best suggestion I would extend to you is to seek help from a PGA teaching pro (they could be found at most golf courses or through the PGA of America website). Best of luck!

Kaden, welcome to TT! I can tell you from experience, just focusing on my short game, chipping, pitching and putting has taken me from a 7.2 to a 4.4 this year so far, with my last round being an even par 72! Spend 75% of your time working on the short game, train yourself so no matter what you always get up and down when you are near the green and you will be off to a good start. Work on finding a repeatable easy swing off the tee and from the fairway and you'll be playing good golf. I've recently been working on flexibility and mobility, TPI has a bunch of good stuff on their YouTube site.

    Best of luck,
    Greg

SHORT-GAME!! a good learned simple motion here can be easily applied to a longer full swing. This will get you with the basic of balance, weight shift, shaft lean, etc.. which all are part of the full swing as well.
    Most important, HAVE FUN!!!
  7. Hey I’m also new to the discussions, but what just helped me with my slice is closing my stance more Ik you’d think that you would slice further but with a more closed stance your brain will now need to adjust to hit the center of the face so you will unconsciously swing more out. Also a quick 2-5 lessons help. Hit em straight!

Consistency in your shots is very important; from driver to woods, irons, and especially your short game. Knowing where the ball is going is vital. If you are fading the ball and doing it very consistently, it makes your playing ability way more fun and scorable. You don't have to hit it far, just hit it the same every time.
Additionally, ALWAYS have fun. Tension, worry, tight muscles, gripping the club too tightly will all make your swing more restricted. It is a game and is meant to be enjoyed regardless of score or perceived success. If you are out there you are already winning.
