After 13 holes, a pretty frustrating round of missed birdie opportunities and two blow up holes, I was mired in the despair of indifferent golf. I had just failed to make a straight up the hill birdie putt from 5 feet, so when I got to the 14th tee box, I had mentally checked out and started snapping and texting photos of the amazing homes around the 14th tee box at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach.
One of my playing partners asked if I had used my rangefinder to get a yardage, to which I said no, but I looked at the gps on the cart, which said 174, so I just guesstimated 161. He grabbed my laser and shot 160, so I told him I’m going to play 161.
The ball seems to carry about one club less heat than home, so I went with my T100s 5 iron. My strike was pure, launching my yellow ProV1x high, in a tight draw towards the hole. I was confident it was going to be a good shot, but didn’t realize how good until it landed softly about 4 feet from the hole and rolled right into the cup! I turned to my playing partners and asked did that just go in?
This my 4th ace, all with Titleist clubs and golf balls, but the first that I ever actually could see go into the cup! And it’s funny that it’s a ProV1x - I’ve played the ProV1 all year, but our pro shop didn’t have any yellow ProV1s in stock, so I grabbed a dozen yellow V1x for this trip. Guess I’ll play these for a while.
