Tanglewood, Hole #7 - Par 3
This hole has been my nemesis for years. A long par 3 that today measured 199 yards to the pin.
Approaching the green, two bunkers flank each side with the right trap resting just below the Green and the left much deeper. Beyond the green is instant danger as it quickly drops 25 feet before reaching wooded ravine.
Never quite having all the pieces together at once, the distance, the direction, the conditions, and even the energy in the past... It all came together this beautiful sunny day.
The stroke of a 5 iron, sailed along the right edge of the fairway. The type of swing and connection that just 'feels good'. As it carried, a late, light turn back towards the center, the ball touched down on the fringe just inside the right bunker. As it hopped onto the green, it quickly gave way to the right to left contour of the green. In excitement I yelled, 'C'mon Disappear!' and a moment later.... She was gone.
The brief moment of confusion followed by exuberance. Hoots and hollers, jumping, high fives and bear hugs, followed skepticism and disbelief.
No Way. where is it?
It went in!
A huge shout out to those with me to witness it. John K, Nate L, and Jim R, as they made it a truly magical and memorable moment for me. The passers by on other holes, my league mates back at the clubhouse, and all who have heard made this something I will never forget.
