I was recently fitted for a GT2 driver and am getting 1/2 inch off of the shaft. According to my research, every 1/2 inch is 3 swing points -- and 2 grams is 1 swing point. So, in theory I would have to add 6 grams to maintain the same swing weight.

However, when viewing the Titleist web site and the SureFit weight system, -1/2 inch is recommended to add 2 grams...unless I am reading it wrong. So my question is how many grams should I be adding to the head? 2? 6? Swing dependent? The fitter never mentioned this to me.

  2. I wonder the same thing about my set. I have been playing 150's at half inch increase. I recently cut them down the a quarter ext. Dispersion rate has gone down drastically. This is a very over looked part of the fitting process in most places, but sometimes not needed. I would look further with a experienced club fitter and get off web. Maybe try and couple different sw's and look at data.

If you ordered it shorter and did not specify swing weight, they will make the appropriate weight change during the build to make it D2. Yes, swing weight can affect speed of the swing but also a personal preference in feel for someone who wants heavier to control face rotation.

I recently had a fitting - 1/2 inch short and 2 grams added

The 6 grams to be added is correct although this can vary somewhat depending on the weight distribution of the shaft - difference not likely to be significant.

On the subject of what Titleist does when a club is ordered in a length other than standard they do not adjust swing weight to compensate as they do not know the intention of the customer who may very well want the swing weight resulting from the length ordered. I have previously confirmed this with Titleist.

So I called Titleist and they said what Dale V posted, that they will automatically adjust the swing weight based on shaft length if no specific weight is requested to be added. They said every half inch is 2 grams either way, adding or taking off in shaft length. It's a little conflicting based on other manufactures but I will trust these guys.

The automatic swing weight adjustment when ordering a non standard length is opposite of what was advised several years ago by Cathi at Titleist so this may a change in policy. Times change
