does a set of irons with no serial numbers on the neck mean that they are tour issued? specifically the 690 mb, 680, 670, etc.

Hi Christopher -
It does not mean that they are tour issued but there is a chance they were built off a Tour van. Unfortunately, there is no way to be certain as product built on the Tour van without a serial number cannot be tracked.
Hope this helps...

I have a 909D2 driver head that is claimed to be a "tour issue" head. It has a serial number xxTxx - supposedly the T stands for tour version or issued ? It is 1.5 degree open, which is opposite of the "commercial" closed face angle, and has been hot melted (but where the melt is is anybody's guess. Does the "T" in the serial number signify anything?
Rob
Hi Rob -
Its possible it was a head from our Tour Department. The "T" could also just be part of a custom serial number and not signify the head came from the Tour department. Also, the standard face angle for 909 drivers is .5 degree open.
Thanks Nick!
The seller claims it was from one of Erik Compton's drivers. That alone is inspiring in itself given all he has gone through. It appears he was a 909 D3 player, so perhaps he discarded this D2 somewhere along the way. I'll certainly give it a try since my D2 seems to have developed a small crack in the top side of the clubhead at the hosel. Have you seen this type of crack? I hit balls all winter in Michigan with ice cold balls, so it wouldnt surprise me given that it has seen its share of temperature stress.
