Hi. I am looking at buying a new set of irons. I currently am a 1.5 handicap and I play the 755's. I like them, but ive had them for 2 full seasons and they're just not cutting it anymore. I would like some imput as to how the 710 MB's and CB's compare to the 755's.

I was thinking about going MB's 6 or 7 - PW and CB's 3 - 6 or 7. Any suggestions on this. Also was planning on going with DG TI (Dynamic Gold Tour issue) S300's.  Currently have Tri-Spec Stiff's in my current set.

    Any help is appreciated.

Shawn,  I'm thinking that you should just go straight CB's.  I did a mixed version in my original order, but the ball flight was a little different and certainly the look and feel was different.  I'd like to say that I know best, but I'm pretty sure this is the reason that Titleist doesn't market "mixed" sets.  They make the best performing irons around, and I certainly don't hear them preaching a mixed iron set.  As to your shafts I would say that if you hit a high ball with a lot of speed then the DG Tour Issues would be great.  If you found that the Tri-Specs were pretty good I would just go with the regular DG S3's.  I'm not 100% sure but I think the Tri-Specs are a little softer, especially in the tip, and they would help you launch it a little higher.  Bottom line, if you want a "tighter" flight with a little lower trajectory, go with the Tour Issues, if you were happy with your ball flight before, don't.  Hope this helps a little and good luck with your new sticks!

    Shawn,

The 755's were a good iron and the 710 CB's are similar in design and performance. The 710 are a little smaller head, but still have a good sole for forgiveness. I played the 755's and like the 710's better.

I would get to a fitter before you mix your set. The MB's perform differently than the CB's. I thought about the same idea but ended up liking the the CB's better.

Also, the tri-spec shaft is different than the DG tour issue. The DG will lower your flight and spin.

Really, the best idea is to get to a local authorized Titleist fitter and try them on a launch monitor.

    Good luck,

    Kevin

I use a combo set myself, the 690s and the new 710 blades. I have had my new 710 for just a few days, but can tell you this. 1 they are small i have been playing the Z blades and these are much smaller. They look great at address and feel very good. I hit them a bit higher , but I am very pleased with them. Not yet comfortable to try and work these yet  a little scared of the size but sure it will come after a few more range sessions. I was looking to play with the 710s 456, but they are just as small , and want a tad bit bigger head from 220 out with a 4iron. I will most likley go with the AP2 for those. I have played Titleist for a long time and love the clubs they make. Any ones you choose I'm sure you will be more than happy with. As far as shafts go I would stay with something you can control the height with, these MBs are not scared of height, and thats not a bad thing for approach shots.

I would go all CB's but the only problem is I have a very high ball flight and i produce a lot of backspin with my current irons. I have hit both the MB's and CB's on the range and the MB's produce the ball flight that I desire, but I really like the look of the long irons in the CB's. I found that the CB 6-iron with a DG S300 shaft produced a slightly, just slightly too high a ball flight for my likings. But then again I only tried the 6-iron in both.

    Shawnk,

I tend to disagree with most of the above posters.  I think a mixed set works great together.  I play the CB's in 4, 5, 6 iron and the MB's in the 7, 8, 9, and PW.  The CB's will flight the ball higher but not by much and that is what you want in your longer irons anyway.  The MB's have a perfect trajectory with the short irons.  The slight  added forgiveness in the CB's work well in the long irons as well plus the two sets blend perfectly together.

I love my mixed set and I can't imagine playing anything different.

What I would recomend is this: if you like the long iron CB short iron MB combo, DO IT!  you are the one who has to look at the clubs every time you take a swing.  I would look at the shaft, the TI comes in S400 and X100 only.  the ball flight will be significantly different between the trispec vs. the TI.  Make sure its what you like.

I have been playing the 670's for the last three years, I decided to start to update the set this year.  I got the 3,4 iron in the CB earlier this season.  I have been very pleased with the ball flight, distance and feel.  I started with the Project X 5.5, while I hit the ball futher, I had a tendancy to hit a hard draw.  I switched back to the 6.0 and that was an improvement.  I have ordered the 5,6 irons in the TI X100 I should have them in the next week.  I currently have a 5.5, 6.0, S300 and soon will have the TI X100 installed in my 3-6 irons.  I want to make sure the flight, distance and trajectory are right for me.

Yeah, I forgot that it only comes in S400 and X100. Im thinking i may go with a DG300 because of where the MB and CB have the new grooves. Which is gonna knock some backspin off my shots anyways, so that should bring it down to the trajectory I desire. I like the softness of the tri-spec shaft but it just goes too high and puts too much backspin on some shots. As for the actual clubs I'm pretty sure I will go with the combo set. I was talking to a pro that said it can be done no problem and that its a common idea for the lower handicaps to do.

You will love the combo set.  If I had to do it again I would set my set up the same way which again is 4,5,6 iron in the CB's and 7,8,9 and PW in the MB's.
