At what handicap did you get your first club fitting?

And at what handicap do you think it becomes worthwhile to get fitted for the entire bag?

I'm currently playing off 35, and I'm wondering if it's still too early for a proper fitting. Part of me thinks I should improve my swing first, but on the other hand, having clubs that are properly fitted might help me progress faster. For context, I'm still taking regular lessons and actively working on my swing. I'd be interested to hear about your experiences.

Fittings will refine your swing needs as a low handicap golfer but as a high handicap golfer, you might be missing out on some basics from a fitting. Physical stature might require longer or shorter clubs or flatter or upright lie settings. They can also get you in a shaft that closely matches your swing speed which may change over time but will probably serve you well through your early progression. Fittings are always a good idea, especially with Titleist applying fees directly to your purchase and final club costs being no different than off the shelf club cost. I say, go for it.

Has your pro commented on your current clubs? Is there one area that your club(s) may be hurting you?

Just as an example, if driver goes in every direction but the fairway, and you have a hybrid within 20 yards of your driver but keep it in the fairway, then maybe you should skip using driver and focus on irons, wedges and putter. Then add driver back in later. Just one possible example.

You and your coach can pick out specific weaknesses to focus on. Even starting with a putter fitting and lesson if you typically 3-4 putt each hole. Just dropping 42 putts to 36 will move your handicap under 30. Somewhere in a 35 handicap is a weakness that fitting that part of your bag can make a difference. A full bag now may be too much now, but some focused segments will help.

Once I stopped teaching myself and fitting myself for used clubs, I made progress Never got fit for a full bag at one time.
