I was fitted last year for TSI3 driver and I have been very happy with it. My question is has anyone out there kept the same shaft and put it into a TSR3 and gained yardage? I am 65 years old and carry around 240 with my current TSI3 and wondered if I would gain much switching to the TSR 3.

If you wanted to spend the time for a TSR, let the fitter work with you to see if they-2 or -4 may also work better. Empirically, if you already are getting optimal performance with the TSi, you might only see incremental improvement. 1-2 mph ball sped improvement only results in 3-8 yards. With USGA limited design that is actually impressive.

I gained 15-20 yards, but that was from a TSi-1 to the TSR-2. I have a “terminal” speed limit swing and I didn’t gain club head speed with the lighter setup. But the smash factor (and ball speed) moved from under 1.43 to 1.48. …Mass matters.

Thank you for the input Don. I hadn’t considered other models.

I was curious if you were able to test the TSi1 with the heavier shaft. I didn't get along with the stock shaft that came in mine and went to a slightly heavier shaft that helped get me past the TSi2 that I was using. I wanted to upgrade to the TSR1, but, now I wonder. No place close by for me to get with a fitter and the local box stores near don't have the TSR1 in stock yet.
  5. I went from TSI4 to a TSR2. Thought the TSI4 was low spin, but actually went 1500rpm higher than I hit the TSR2. Also gained 20-30 yards due to spin reduction and club head speed increase. So happy with the change, and can't wait to bomb it past my regulars now instead of hitting first off the tee. Getting fit for the TSR2 was more thorough than when I went to the big box place last year for the TSI4 fitting, so find one that will go through everything.

Like Don O., as a "seasoned" golfer, I have a limited swing speed. I went from a TSi3 with a light-weight shaft to a TSR2 with a heavier shaft and increased distance through increased efficiency (smash factor).

Only one way to find out is to do a fitting!
