Do you adjust the Surefit Hosel first or Surefit CG weight?

  1. Hi all, I've been tinkering around with the settings on my 917D2 and have only tweaked the Surefit hosel settings to achieve the ballflight that I'm looking for - a higher draw that for the most part takes away my miss, a block/push right (not so bad) or a push slice (very bad). I'm still prone to some push-blocks or even the occasional dreaded low pull when I'm psyched out by trouble on the right. Will the CG draw weight change have a bigger effect on helping the clubface rotate over than the highest setting for a draw on the hosel? Just sounding out for thoughts on this!! Cheers all and thanks!!!

Leslie, i would say yes, you can give it a try. It might make that occasional low pull worse but will definitely help the face rotation through impact. Shaft flex could also be a way to alter that shot. You might consider doing a Titleist Thursday fitting to get on TrackMan and see what combinations give you the best results. Good luck!

Great question and one I asked about a while back. I tend to hit some big draws early in the season and wanted to adjust in more fade, so listed below are my question and the response from Will (Club Concierge):

Will, I've got another question that I hope you can help with. With the 917 which has more fade bias impact, the surfeit hosel setting B1 or the fade weight? I've got a little to much early spring draw going and want to try to neutralize it a bit. I hope to be able to get outside to hit tomorrow and plan to try both, but was hoping for a little technical insight first. Thanks, Barry

Hi Barry The hosel and the CG weight work differently. The hosel really affects initial ball direction and the CG weight affects the curvature of the ball flight so you should try both. Since you are talking about the draw, I would try the CG weighting first. Thank you

Granted, I was trying to crank in more fade, but the overall explanation provided by Will should help you also. Oh, by the way, cleared up my big draw real quick.
  4. Thank you, Barry! Great bit of info there. Will def give the CG a go next. Had an studio/indoor fitting but the results don't quite carry over onto the course, hence the tinkering. Cheers!

Hi Leslie, We would recommend that you work with the Surefit hosel first as that will make the biggest change and then fine tune with the CG weight. The Surefit settings will assist with direction/height and the weight assists with curvature, but the beauty of the system is that it can always be changed back. :)
  6. Thank you Cathi!!! Will def give it go this weekend. One of reasons I'm loving my 917D2 so much, but also got to resist over-tinkering and working on my swing more! LOL! Cheers!
  7. That's something I was thinking myself. I just left it the way the fitter had it but I may slightly move the hosel just to experiment.

    Thanks!!

This is an older post but I didn't play around with the weights much and could not stop hitting a fade/slice with this driver. My miss is usually a hook. It was baffling. I opened up the Surefit weight screw and saw I was playing with a 12G fade. I switched to 12g neutral and Bam! Nice and straight with an occasional baby fade. I also was hitting the toe a lot with the fade weight and now center strikes with neutral. I didn't realize how important that weight was.
  9. Hi All, what settings on the 917D2 driver should I use to overcome a natural fade sometimes heavy slice. I would like to play with a draw, which my course favours.

Increasing loft will close the face. Increasing lie will help promote more of a straight/draw. The 917 also have the 2 weights - so using the draw/fade weight with the draw arrow into the head will also promote a draw. Unfortunately, a duck hook or a full bore slice is a swing fault that is beyond the limits of any equipment. If you still need/want more draw, you should work with a PGA instructor - it may only be a small change like adjusting your grip or setup.
  11. both in my case....however everyone is different.
