Well here we are at the end of February. The Florida swing is starting on the PGA Tour, and many of us are already talking about spring being just around the corner... I was stuck here in Ontario fighting through the cold snowy winter and did not get away to enjoy some warm weather. Fortunately I did have the indoor golf option to keep working on my game at my local course. I am hoping that many of you have had the opportunity to get out on a buddies trip to break up the winter. It would be great to hear about your buddy trip this winter along with any great tips on how you made your winter getaway a special time !!! Let the rest of us melt into spring with your stories :)

I was lucky enough to get away a couple of times this winter. Was in Punta Cana for 12 days in Dec. Played the course at our resort 3 times and then treated myself to a round at Punta Espada. This course was magnificent. The conditions were incredible, the view and scenery were second to none, and weather was 28 and not a cloud in the sky. This course was literally like being in golfers heaven. I was playing as a single, while my wife road along taking pictures and just enjoying the scenery. I was a bit hesitant before booking the round,as it was expensive and with the exchange, was really expensive, and I was a bit nervous about not playing well. Turns out I had a great round, and I even impressed myself .. On the 8th hole, caught up to a husband and wife who I joined. Turns out she was a PGA instructor in Dallas and he set up the courses for the .com tour. All in all, it was a day I will never forget.
In Feb,we got away for a week to Jamaica, which we have been to several times. Played 4 rounds there as well, at White Witch and Cinnamon Hill in Montego Bay. Both courses were in great condition, and the nice part was that I teed off at 7:30,and was back on the beach by 11 am!
    Now back to shoveling!!!

I managed to get to Pebble beach, the Links at Spanish bay, Harbour Town, Wildstone and even off to China. Much like Darius, this was all on a simulator. I did join a league this winter with a friend and it has been a ton of fun. It has made the long cold winter seem a little more bearable as we get to look forward to a round of golf every Monday.

There was a hint of spring here in Calgary yesterday as mini Chinook moved in and brought the temperatures close to zero. That didn't last long as we are back to -17 this morning. Hopefully we will be on the links by the end of the month.

    Fingers crossed

Not a buddy trip I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks on Maui. Played 9 times as a single which I like because you get to meet people from all over. Played some bucket list courses Kapalua Bay, Kaanapali Royal and Kai, Kahili and Maui Nui.

Trevor I'm glad you're an optimist about the end of March, the snow can melt fast here but I will be happy for Masters weekend.

With Calgary weather all you can do is hope. Do you remember about 7 - 8 years ago we were playing by the 3rd week of March then we got hit by a snow storm early April and it shut the courses down for a week or so.

    Take what we can get.

Things aren't that much different here in Barrie. We often get teased by some nice weather in March and then get hit with more winter. The big hope is that we can get out by mid April although I am throwing some of my Easter eggs into the basket and hoping that this year we can be out before the end of March and have an early season !

Even 2 years ago I played twice in March and didn't play again until May. Talk about a slow April in the Pro Shop.

'til now I have been stuck in Ontario's up and down weather. Fortunately, I have an indoor winter golf school to work on the swing. Buddy trip is planned for the end of this month down in Hilton Head. Can't wait to get going!!!

I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks in Naples, Fla around Christmas and New Years. Got to play and practice about 10 of the days we were there. The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time we were there, I miss it every day.

As luck would have it I'll be in Northern California in two weeks and will get the chance to play some more golf. Likely some rounds at Silverado Resort, Bayonet and Black Horse, Poppy Hills, Spyglass Hill and perhaps Pebble if I'm able to get a tee time. I don't expect the weather to be great but it will be better than here.

Typically I don't travel to warm destinations to play golf in the winter so this year will be an exception for me.

    Bring on summer!
