I decided to go back to my old club to play matchplay this year. My membership allows me to play 27 courses, and I am a member at one course, but their match play set up does not suit my game. Your age determines the tee box you play, so for me a short hitter who is 52 years old, I get to play from tees that are approx. 6500 yards. That is too long for me. I can't hit any par 4 in regulation, and even with a great short game, you are not going to win very often when 10 holes are out of reach and you are hitting wedge in, fighting to save par.
So, I go back to my stomping ground where I have had success ( 3 titles, 2 times runner up) in 7 years from 2009 to 2016, and I draw a 2 handicap in the first round. My index is 8.7 right now, so with 75% handicap, he has to give me 5 shots. We have not had rain in these parts for a few weeks now, and the course is playing short. I am playing well right now, and I expect to shoot somewhere around 75, par 70 course, 5600 yards. I am not used to being given that many shots, it should be a good match.
