First PGA Tour Win for Sung Kang Highlights 6-Win Week for Titleist Players

Sung Kang celebrates after a birdie putt at the 2019 AT&T Byron Nelson

The wins keep mounting for Titleist players across the worldwide professional golf tours, as six more players entered the winner's circle around the globe this weekend. Victories for four first-time winners highlighted the action, led by Sung Kang, who relied on the new 2019 Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and a TS3 driver to raise the trophy at the Wells Fargo Championship.

With this week's victories on the PGA, European, Asian/Japan, Australasian, Korean and China Tours, players trusting their games to a Titleist golf ball have now collected 69 wins across the worldwide professional tours. That's more than five times the nearest competing brand with just 13 and more than all competing brands combined.

Let’s take a closer look at this past week’s Titleist tour highlights…

For the third consecutive time at a PGA Tour full-field tournament (not including the Zurich Classic team event) a player has captured his first PGA Tour victory relying on a New 2019 Pro V1 golf ball and a TS driver. This week it was Sung Kang, who endured multiple weather delays and a 27-hole Sunday marathon to enter the winner's circle for the first time at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Kang relied on New 2019 Pro V1x golf ball and a TS3 driver to capture his maiden victory just one week after Max Homa collected his first PGA Tour victory trusting the New 2019 Titleist Pro V1 golf ball and a TS4 driver. And just two weeks before that, C.T. Pan captured his first PGA Tour title, trusting the New 2019 Pro V1x and a TS2 driver to win the traditional Tartan Jacket at the RBC Heritage.

On Friday, Kang put himself in prime position after he set the course record at Trinity Forest with a 10-under-par 61. Torrential rains forced the third round to be postponed, requiring a 27-hole test of physical and mental endurance on Sunday. Kang wrapped up his third round with a 3-under 68 and then the 31-year-old South Korean closed with a 4-under 67 to finish with a 23-under 261 victory total, two shots clear of playing partners Scott Piercy (Pro V1) and Matt Every (Pro V1x).

"We knew it was going to be long day for everyone. With Scott and Matt making so many birdies on the front, I was like 'Don't watch what the others are doing, play your own game. Whatever they do, they do.' I was just working on my game and shooting my score. I think it was really about the mental game and who is not going to lose the focus at the end."

Kang, Every and Piercy were followed on the front page by the defending PGA Championship winner (Pro V1x) in solo 4th.

Like Piercy, Titleist Brand Ambassador Peter Uihlein (Pro V1x) closed with a Sunday 63-64 to race up the leaderboard and finish in a five-way tie for 5th.

He was joined by Matt Jones (Pro V1x), Tyler Duncan (Pro V1) and Rory Sabbatini (Pro V1x Yellow).

Kang topped a leaderboard on which 21 of the 22 players who finished among the top-20 and ties played a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball.

Titleist golf ball players have now registered 12 wins on the 2018-2019 PGA Tour, more than twice the nearest competitor with 5.

With the win, Sung moves to 21st in the FedExCup standings and also boosts his stock as a potential member on the International Team at this year’s Presidents Cup. Kang will try to parlay his winning momentum at this week's PGA Championship, and he has also earned an invitation to next year's Masters.

According to Darrell Survey, for the second consecutive week — and the seventh time this season — Titleist achieved the feat of sweeping every major equipment category at a PGA Tour event.

From GOLF BALLS to DRIVERS, FAIRWAY METALS and HYBRIDS to IRONS, WEDGES and PUTTERS, the Titleist brand was the overwhelming field favorite in the final event before the second major of the year, this week's PGA Championship.

The other events in which Titleist was the field favorite in every category include the Wells Fargo Championship, Corales Puntacana Championship, Valspar Championship. Honda Classic, Farmers Insurance Open and Sony Open in Hawaii.

Titleist was also the most popular choice among players in the driver category, with 52 Titleist models in play. Of those Titleist drivers, 48 were TS models (TS2 - 13 | TS3 - 31 | TS4 - 3).

The Titleist TS3 continues to be the most played single driver model on the PGA Tour with 31 played at the Nelson, 10 more than the next closest driver model with 21.

Titleist was also the top choice in the fairway metal (56) and hybrid (24) categories. Of the 56 Titleist fairway metals in play, 46 were new TS models (TS2 - 24 | TS3 - 22).

Titleist led the field in irons with 51 sets in play - 22 more sets than the nearest competitor.

The Titleist 718 AP2 (20) and the 718 MB (17) were the top two most played iron models last week.

More than half of all wedges in the Byron Nelson field (229/53%) were of the Vokey Design variety. The nearest competitor had 77 wedges in play.

Scotty Cameron putters were once again the field favorite this week with 60 Cameron putters in play, 12 more than the nearest competitor.

In addition, 41 players this week are trusting one golf brand, Titleist, from tee-to-green, throughout the entire bag — a vote of confidence that speaks volumes when you consider the challenge of getting your game battle-ready to compete for a major championship.
