No Accident

You hear stories about guys who hit holes in one off trees and cart paths and from super short distances. And up until today, I never had a hole in one. But, I always hoped that, if I were to get one, mine wouldn't be like those. It wouldn't be the result of some fluke or on some 90 pitch, but the consequence of a well struck ball.

Also, before today, I never played the Shattuck Golf Club. So as I approached the tee box on the par-four thirteenth hole, and saw its thin fairway arc left around the water, the hole immediately appealed to me - a lefty with a tendency to fade. Sure, going for the green was unadvised. But, reaching the green - at just 223 yards away - was evidently possible. Having relegated my round to practice status after the first three holes, I had no score to protect. So I pulled my three hybrid and swung with driving range confidence.

At the moment of impact, I knew I carried the hazard. By the time I caught sight of the ball, I knew it would land - if not hold - the green. What I didn't know is that, after about five minutes of searching, I would eventually find my ball in the hole! My first hole in one on a par four over 200 yards of water. The consequence of a well struck ball.

David Haynes and Chris Kelly are seen in the attached photo finishing up the hole.
