My Titleist Hole In One

At the first ever Stableford Event at Chambers Bay (home of the 2015 US Open) I was having a tough round. The fog was heavy most of the morning making it tough to see most shots past 100 yds.

After a particularly frustrating 16th hole where I had lost my ball and couldn't even finish the hole (thank you fog), I trudged to the 17th hole, plopped my bag down and opened a new sleeve of ProV1's I had bought for the tournament.

The 17th at Chambers Bay sits along the windy shores of the bay with a heavily utilized train track running along in between. From the Sand Tees it is about 149 yards with the flag down hill and surrounded on the front by waste and sand. There is a giant burm on the left and trouble on the right in the form of more sand than you can dig yourself out of. The back area holds a giant grass bank, so it's not a bad idea to club up, especially when the wind is whipping, which it usually is. It's a go long or go home hole, so I tee'd up my new ProV1, grabbed my AP2 7-iron, aimed right for the pin and ripped what felt was a solid clean shot. As I watched my ball flight I noticed it was a bit left of where I had hoped, though I was just happy to see it heading toward the green. I was playing with two members and they started commenting on how it was going exactly where you're "supposed" to hit it. I lost sight of the ball after halfway to the hole due to the fog, but my foursome was able to follow it. Apparently it nailed the burm on the left and started a fortuitous roll. At first there were subtle comments to "roll baby roll", then they got louder, "Keep going! Keep going!", finally they all started jumping up and down saying "It's in! It went in!" I refused to believe them until I saw it for myself, but was happy to take the high-fives and comments that I'd be buying rounds after the 18th.

Nervously I walked toward the green, not allowing myself to get my expectations up (again, it was foggy, so maybe it just disappeared from their sight) and I noticed that there were no other balls close enough to the hole to be a near miss. Sure enough I got to the pin, looked in, and staring back at me was my brand new, one-hit-wonder ProV1.

Needless to say, while the round didn't start well, it ended better than any round I've played. I might even end up with some tourney money (Closest to the Pin for sure!)thanks to Titleist and a little bit of luck.

Thanks Titleist, I couldn't have done it without you!
