Luck Strikes Twice Shocking
By Tony S On 18 October 2012
Frankly, I am the worst golfer playing in a group of experienced golfers at Santa Rosa Beach Golf Club. I have yet to break 100 at the course but I am getting closer. Ironically, this is my second hole in one in less than two years, the first being at Baytowne Course in Destin using an old 8 iron bought at Goodwill. This first one (and I thought last one) was a 120 yard shot that bounced in front of the green and rolled a long way into the cup. I thought it had rolled over the green and into the bunker. It took four of us about ten minutes to realize that it had disappeared into the hole. Shocking!
The second hole in one was much prettier. I first pulled out a new 7 iron but then decided to return that to the bag because I had been hitting the 4 Hybrid high and straight and reasoned "why not". Not to brag, but it was a Titleist 1, perfect shot, high in the air, across the edge of the water, and straight within 5 feet of the cup...rolled right in. It was a fun day and much free beer was consumed by the group. What made it even more fun was that it was witnessed by some very good golfers, not only in my foursome but by the foursome in front. There was much fist bumping and congratulatory gestures and they seemed as happy as I was with the outcome.
Moral to the story...you can get lucky more than once...and everybody likes cheering for an underdog! The only thing missing was my "golf mentor" who was out of town. He keeps telling me that I have "potential" and would have loved the hole in one.
