Hard Greens
By Michael H On 1 June 2012
I was playing at the Wilfire Palmer Course (JW Marriott Phoenix), the day before had been very windy with gusts up to 50mph and the greens were very hard and running fast. No balls seemed to be holding (I had been using another ball at the time), so I switched to a Titleist Pro V1 (my preferred ball). The 8th hole is a 185 yard par 3 with bunkers facing you and a green slanting away from the tee - the pin was just over the bunker. There was a 15 - 20 mph gust into me at the time, so I went for my 5 iron. Club selection I was unsure of, ball selection I wasn't. I hit the ball solidly with a high flight despite the strong wind. I say it pitch over the bunker on target and it looked good. When I got to the green it was bare and I thought "wow, even my Titleist didn't hold" - as I walked past the flag to search the desert behing I glanced down and lone behold my ball was in the cup!
