Great Way to Start Our Presidents Cup Tournament
By Russell B On 8 February 2012
I've been playing golf since I was about 14 years old. I turned 64 6 days ago, and although I had some very close calls, I had never had a hole-in-one. Today I was paired against a very good player in the first round of Match Play in our President's Cup Tournament. We had a shotgun start and my opponent and I started on hole 16 which we tied. As we arrived at the 17th tee box, we were discussing how my opponent had "taken away" my chance to get a "closest to the pin" award two weeks earlier when he got a hole-in-one that beat my 1 ft 11 inch shot. I then stepped up to the tee, hit my 9 iron to the 136 yard par 3 hole, and watched it hit just short of the green, roll up and drop into the hole! How ironic was that?! I went on to win closest to the pin on two more par 3 holes, and won my match! What a wonderful day on the links! And, boy am I glad I had purchased our club's "hole-in-one insurance" because my bar bill was nearly $300!
