A Father and Son First Hole in One
By Bart M On 4 September 2012
During our weekly round at our local course it was a day like any other day in early September in South Texas.......hot, humid and breezy....and on this Labor Day morning, there was much "golf" work to do for a father and his young son. We hit the GC early to do our best to beat the heat and never could have anticipated what has now become a cherished moment that will be ingrained in our memories for the rest of our lives. Ethan is an 11 year old left handed junior golfer and playing from the forward tee decided to take driver on number 6, a 157 yard par 3. I almost suggested he take less club but due to the slight breeze I decided to keep quiet and trust in his instincts (I really need to do that more frequently). He delivered the blow and although not pure (let's be honest....how often is it?) it got to the green quite easily and disappeared from view. Due to the elevation we thought it may have rolled off the back and Ethan said, " I wonder if it could have gone in?" We walked up to the green and approached the hole and as Ethan was looking beyond the green, I peered into the cup and witnessed my very first hole in one. I drew his attention to it and I'll never forget his look of astonishment and excitement. While I have been playing this humbling game for little more than 10 years and have yet to card an ace, I am thrilled and beaming with pride to have experienced my son's first of what I hope will be many.
I love you with all my heart my darling boy and am so very proud to be your dad.
