My First Ace! - 7073

Well, after playing this game for 35 years with countless rounds over that time, I finally shot my first Hole In One.

It was December 4th, 2015 and I was playing at my local course here in the Vancouver, B.C. Canada area. It was a relatively warm day for December with the temperature hovering around 7 degrees Celsius (44 * F).

I was having an off day so far when we hit the 11th Hole - a short, 112 yard Par 3. I measured out the distance to the pin as being 104 yards with the flag at the front third of the green.

I normally play with a Titleist Pro V1x but with the cooler weather, I've been playing with the NXT Tour S. So, I went into my bag and pulled out a new ball, remembering what I had just read the day before regarding a posting on Team Titleist. One of the TT members wrote that he would often pull a new ball out for Par 3's in case he made a hole in one!

I was being a bit cheeky, thinking that it would be great if that worked for me!

There was a bit of a head wind facing us, so I clubbed up to my 714 AP2 PW. I took an easy 3/4 swing and struck the ball a little to the toe side of the club. My ball flight was still solid and with good trajectory. The line was pretty good, landing on the green some 5-8 feet from the flag, before rolling out and into the hole!

I did a double take and then with the dawning realization and comprehension that it went in, I started my first celebration. There was a work crew working on our tee box as the course was installing new cart paths, curbing and sod. It was a bit fun as they too joined in the celebration.

As we approached the green, I was still feeling a little like maybe it was all an optical illusion and the ball just rattled the flag and I missed it. Well, it did indeed go in and I had my first hole in one after having some 30 shots over the years that either rattled off a flag stick or having just missed the hole only to wind up some 12 inches away from the hole.

My playing partner, whom I was paired up with by the Pro Shop pulled out the camera and took the photos for me. I was inspired by the ace that I decided to mimic James Hahn and do a little Gangnam Dance like the one that he did at the Waste Management Open in Phoenix earlier this year!

All in all, it was obviously the highlight of the day and got me excited knowing that I could finally log on to Team Titleist and share my story!

Here is to Titleist for providing my with the clubs that I use, my balls (both my usual Pro V1x's and the NXT Tour S that I used today) and my Titleist Cap that inspires me when I step up to the first tee box! Thanks for making the equipment that inspired me to practice and work hard on my swing and improving my ball striking -- today's Hole In One was "sponsored" by Titleist!

And I raise a glass to all of you and to your future 'Hole In Ones'!
