Butch Harmon on Teaching, Trust and the Golf Swing | Team Titleist Talks

Team Titleist Talks with Michael Breed and Butch Harmon becomes a masterclass in golf instruction, shaped by decades around the game’s best players, teachers and pressure moments.

Great coaching has never been about chasing one perfect swing model. Technology, launch monitors and video can all help a player understand what is happening, but the real work still comes back to the coach’s eye, the player’s feel and the ability to make a complicated game sound simple.

Breed and Harmon talk about the difference between teaching and coaching, the lessons passed down from Claude Harmon and John Jacobs, and why the ball flight still tells a coach so much. The numbers matter, but they are only useful when they lead to a message a player can actually take to the next shot.

Years spent around elite players give Harmon a clear sense of what each golfer needs in the moment: when to speak, when to listen, when to push and when to let a player own what already works. His philosophy is direct, practical and built around one belief - no two golfers are exactly the same.

The conversation moves between modern technology, timeless fundamentals, communication and trust, offering a rare look at how two respected Titleist staffers think about helping golfers get better without making the game harder than it needs to be.
