I currently play one of Chrome Tour, TP5 or (my preferred option) Titleist ProV1. I am a mid handicapper. For me it had great distance and low dispersion off the tee compared to my current balls. The thing I noticed that was different was the speed on and around the green. I chip from the fringe and for this shot and putting, the speed was about 5-10% faster. This was great once I got used to it. I had a couple of unusual flyers from 1st cut rough but need to play more rounds to learn more. Unfortunately one of the flyers took my ball over the green and through a hedge on the last hole (very frustrating) so I have 2 x ProV1 and 3 x ProV1x left. Great to be able to try them! The night before it happened, one of the guys at dinner said he felt there was going to be a hole in one and we all agreed to pitch in $100 to the person that get's one. We opened the trip on Sunday October 18th with an 8 am tee time at Shorty's, which is the new par 3 19 hole golf course on the property. The 8 of us played together as 1 group and this was my first time playing this course since it opened in 2024. I was second to last to hit my tee shot on hole 2 so mostly everyone had hit. The yardage was 112 yards and I hit a 58 degree SM10 Vokey wedge. The pin was towards the back, middle. The ball hit the green and 1 hopped into the hole. Talk about starting off the trip with a bang and it really energized the group for the day. We followed up the Shorty's round at Sheep Ranch and I bought drinks for everyone. Unfortunately I need size 13 and have a very fussy foot. I did finally find a comfortable FJ shoe (Quantum) but unfortunately that model was no longer available in Canada :( Golf town in my area has a very small shoe section and often do not have any more than 5 different pairs of size 13's so I can try them all on and be out of the store in 5 minutes ! Fortunately my club pro shop is very good and managed to get me into some comfortable shoes at a good price. I told him one day I would love to get a hole in one here, and he agreed it had to be one of the best places to do it in Port Elizabeth. Little did I know the next morning was when it happened! Truly a special experience and memory to have with my dad, as we have played many rounds of golf together and he was the one who taught me how to play from the age of 3. Hole #6 at Humewood Golf Club in South Africa, was a front pin and 111m to the hole. I hit a high fade straight at the pin with my pitching wedge. It landed on the front of the green and trickled into the hole! Couldn't have asked for it to go any better, and was exactly how I would imagine it to go. I prefer the 7w vs a hybrid, For me, the hybrid is far too easy to turn over, most often ending in a way left shot. The 7W has a larger footprint with the head, and with the new GTS models have the weights now shifted to the L and R side, can calm some of the misses down. Find it super easy to launch, and in a pinch can knock it down as well. Think Ian Fraser (Old TXG YouTube channel) did a video comparing, he fit Gary Woodland for his US Open win a while back, knows his stuff. www.youtube.com/watch see if that works !
