Vokey Wedges Fading

  1. Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice, i had a set of AP3's custom fitted 2 degrees upright with project X 6.0/120g shafts. i then bought a set of SM7 vokey wedges off the shelf which have the SM7 Wedge flex shafts and standard lie angle. I hit the ball with a natural draw and my ap3's reflect that. However, with a full swing with my vokey's they tend to fade massively. i mean they can fade 20 yards right of target. With the lie angle i would expect if anything to get more of a draw/hook than a fade. I'm thinking it could be related to the shaft? can anyone offer any advice?

    TIA

If you’re 2deg up then when you play the Vokeys there’s every chance that you are hitting them with the toe down. If the toe is dragging through impact that will open the face. Shafts prob not helping either.
  3. I ordered my most recent set of wedges online and got them spec'd to match my irons (lie angle, length, and shaft). I also play 2 degrees up and used to push-fade my full wedge shots enough that I would aim left to compensate. That doesn't happen anymore. For your next set, I would encourage you to match the specs as closely as you can to the rest of your set. Even the shaft should make a difference. Happy hitting!

In my experience, 2 degrees up is more inclined to promote a draw if you regularly hit it straight with a neutral lie angle iron. If you were fit for 2* up and your wedges are flat/neutral, it is not surprising to hear that you're seeing a fade. (Though, it does sound like quite a big fade. ) I doubt that it is the Wedge Flex shafts, which are S200 (stiff). Even so, I would certainly consider a similar shaft to what you have in your irons. Maybe if you were playing 6.5 flex the softer S200s might be a little too light for you, but the 6.0 is just a stiff shaft. Just speculating here.
  5. Wow my irons where 1 degree up right so I matched my wedge's which I was forever shanking the ball with.

I think I actually swing different with my wedges so the upright in them didn't work at all for me.

You shaft flex and/or 1-2 degrees of lie angle won't create 20 yards of fade. I would focus on the swing. Start by hitting little 30 yard pitches with the flight you want and work up fron there.

  8. Ive recently got vokey wedges, sm7, after having some TM wedges and draw had changed to a fade. I have noticed the vokies are 30g heavier and wondering if that could be the reason?

    Keep turning through the shot.
