  2. You have to be a member or play in the masters right?

It's never been open to the public and probably never will be.

I think the reason it's such a special place is because very few get the pleasure of playing it.

just a fantastic course and I can't wait for the Masters later in the year

As far as I'm aware your able to play with a member of the course and they have a ballot every year for press to play. Was hoping maybe someone had the opportunity to do so. It most certainly is a magical place. Can't wait for the masters either :)

Remember reading an article by Alan Hanson, the former Liverpool & Scotland footballer, about his experience of playing Augusta. A low single figure golfer in his time, he got an invite from somebody or another and was wowed by the place. As far as I know, he's not a member of Augusta but is a member at Formby.
Though you mightn't get many responses on the GB & I site, you might get a more positive response on the TT Clubhouse section above.

  5. Alan is currently a member at Hillside, along with his lifelong playing partner Sir Kenny Dalgleish. They are two of the most generous and friendly people that I know, complete gentleman.
But be warned, Sir Kenny has a vice like handshake......I knew that there had to be some silver lining regarding Covid!

My grandfather played the course, in the days when most of the holes were a mystery over here as I think only 6 or so holes were covered by TV. He always told me Id be amazed as how hilly it was, we now of course know that due to the extensive TV coverage.

I would think that a game at Augusta would be top of every Golfer’s bucket list! Unless you’re press or lucky enough to get an invite, it’s an impossible dream though.
I’ve been applying for tickets to watch through the ballot for years and can’t even get to visit through that. I’ll keep trying though...

Yeah super rare occurrence for sure. I applied for the master for the first time this year actually. Not holding my breath tho. Lol ️‍♀️️‍♀️
  11. I was once told that ever golfer has to do two things in the're lifetime. Play St. Andrews and attend the masters.
I've still to do both. Would be amazing to attend but to play is out of the question unfortunately.

I was fortunate enough to go over to Atlanta for a golfing tour for my 40th birthday, joining a crowd of Gullane members who do the trip yearly. I played some cracking courses in the area like the athletic club numerous times and gems like Peachtree. 3 of the guys that made the trip had received an invite to play Augusta and loved every minute of it. Invite came from a member, and an experience they will never forget.

I need to try for another invite on the golf trip and keep my fingers crossed that one day I might get the invite to play the big one.
