Hi there, I am just recovering from knee surgery so I am unable to play at the moment but I am also suffering from what I believe is tennis elbow on both arms which I did at work carrying heave awkward boxes. Can anybody tell me what treatment and especially what tennis elbow brace i is best for playing without pain and has healing properties? Many thanks, MS.

  2. Hi Mark,

When I suffered tennis elbow I used a support which went over the elbow but didn’t really help.

Then one day at my local club someone suggested a support which went on the forearm just below the elbow. Best thing I bought, it was a simple Velcro strap which I tightened as required. Not pain in the swing or at impact.

Can pick them up on eBay etc for less than a £10.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Bloomin' heck Mark, you are in the wars!!
Perhaps £35 with a reliable physio would be a worthwhile investment at this point in time??
I've tried self-diagnosis myself and been well wide of the mark, wasting a lot of time in the process.

I have suffered with tennis elbow in the past and whilst I tried an number of different support/brace garments, none really did much for me.

What did help was a series of simple exercises:

    1. Rest your right arm on your desk or a suitable flat surface, then rest your left hand on top of the right. Press down gently, then try to push back up with your right hand. Hold for 5-10 seconds and then swap hands.
    2. Get a theraband and use to provide resistance when flexing your wrist, both palm up and down. Rest elbow on your knee or a suitable hard surface, or even do standing up. Trap the band under your foot and repeat 10 times, keeping the band under tension at all times.

I use the band before play or practising now, along with an exercise where I hold two Vokeys (other wedges may be used) and gently turn them side to side a la Miguel Angel Jiminez...

    Hope this helps.

Steve has the right idea. As a Tennis Pro for 40 years, there isn't a much better remedy than his suggestions.

I generally get it on my right hand when I play too many rounds of golf and it’s generally not that bad.

When it flares up, I avoid playing or doing any strenuous activities with my hand (cue the jokes) and a few hand roll excercises a physio showed me.

I also tend to use Ibruprofen an hour before a round if I am playing 36 in a day or playing on consecutive days and it really helps.

Hope you get back to full fitness and start tearfing up the courses again!

Tennis elbow usually occurs in the right elbow for right handed players the same as right handed golfers. You can help the pain with a slight oversize grip that eliminates fingers from over squeezing.

    Mark,
Go see your GP first as mine now has a Physio who visits regularly.

He diagnosed what I though was RSI in my right wrist as the ulnar nerves which were reacting to a possible neck problem. This has a shooting pain between elbow and furthest two fingers (from thumb).

As you have it in both elbows well worth getting this checked ASAP.

    Speedy recovery

  10. I suffered with golfers elbow ( same but other side of joint) I used a new g blue. It has a velcro adjustable band with a pressure pad to apply over the area. This is ok to play golf . I ended up getting some physio to speed up . Also look up and do some wrist stretches. I use a laptop at work so changed to a wireless mouse rather than the touchpad ! This and driving were the issues that caused my problem. Finally get a swing check from a pro . Can not do any harm but may find help when playing. Good luck. It does go away but can take time as us golfers will not stop playing
