  1. Hello,

I have played many famed golf courses in the last 5 years (Bandon Dunes, Pebble, Doral, Torrey South, Streamsong, Bethpage, Troon, And Sawgrass).

Does anyone have a good recommendation for October golf? I was thinking Whistling Straits or Pinehurst but if there are some must plays please comment below! Thank you!

I've had the pleasure of playing both Whistling and Pinehurst. In October the weather in Wisconsin might be iffy. Pinehurst might be the better play. There's tons of golf at Pinehurst, and I'm sure it will be milder in October but not freezing. You could also go to Kiawah in South Carolina will probably be warmer than Pinehurst.

It could be snowing in Wisconsin in October. You never know... Our club in Wausau closed early this year due to snows in October.

New England, northern Mid-Atlantic, and Upper Midwest have peak fall leaf colors around the first week of October. Conditions are generally playable with a jacket until mid to late October. It's my favorite time of the year to play golf in Wisconsin/Michigan (Sand Valley - Erin Hills - Blackwolf Run/Whistling Straits is 8 courses). Cabot Links in Nova Scotia would be best played before October.

I would say weather depends on your trip. You've done most of the really good golf destinations in the USA. I would try Pinehurst due to the restoration of #4 and also The Cradle. Weather may be on your side during the month of October.
I assume you have played all 5 courses at Bandon Dunes?
    Have FUN!
  6. I have played Bandon, Pacific, and Old Mac. I hear trails is awesome.
  7. I agree with all the others, I wouldn't chance it in WI in October. My wife and I were going to do a Straits and Erin Hills for my birthday a couple of years ago (late Oct) and both courses were already closed. I would stick to Pinehurst (hoping the wife and I get there in the next couple of years).
  8. Oh wow. Seems like WI is a no go in fall.

Our club in Wausau is normally open through the first Sunday in November. We closed early last year because of snow. There's a lot of good golf to be played here in the fall, but by October you never know what you're going to get. You could plan your travel and then be disappointed.

This year we had 6" of snow October 20. It melted and I played my last round of the year on the 27th and then the weather turned sour again.

One October day a few years ago it was blowing hard with flurries, a raw day. I saw a car with California plates and a sign in the back window that said "Wisconsin, or bust". They were receiving a rude welcome to the State that day. September would be a better time, into the first week, or maybe second of October.

They did a TT event at Kiawah this past October and I believe that the weather was very cooperative for those in attendance. Good time of the year in Charleston and they have an awesome hotel on the resort, The Sanctuary. The Ocean Course, Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Cougar Point, Oak Point. Awesome restaurants in downtown Charleston and Mt Pleasant, lots of local brewery's, and local fresh seafood. If you happen to belong to a private club there a some awesome private clubs in the area that you might have your pro try to get you on; Country Club of Charleston, Yeaman's Hall, Briar's Creek, Bulls Bay, and Daniel Island Club. We transplanted locals are very proud of the low country of South Carolina. Once you get that pluff mud in between your toes, you never want to leave. Cheers and hope y'all enjoy your stay.
  12. We played Whistling Straits the second weekend in October, and it was chilly. I believe they got snow the next week, but it was in fantastic shape. We Went to pinehurst two years ago and it was fantastic, I’d recommend Dormie Club in that area, along with #2, we also played Pine Needles and MidPines while there and they were great tracks as well.

We did a trip to PGA National in late October last year. Had a blast. Played The Champ course with “The Bear Trap.” Be sure to check out the Palm Beach Par-3, as well. Off the resort, but a great little course right on the beach. Have fun!

Whistling straits would get my vote but could be a gamble with the weather.

  16. Palm Springs is great in October and November. I do a buddy trip there every May 1-4. It’s usually in the mid 90’s and courses drop there prices May 1st.

So many good choices to choose from too!
