Need opinions on Charleston golf. We're going to The Masters, but flying in and out of Charleston, and staying there for a couple of days. Yes, I'm well aware of Kiawah, and all it has to offer. I'd LOVE to play the Ocean Course, but others in our group aren't so keen on paying their prices ($397 for Ocean/ $247 for all others). So, if someone wants to play golf in that area, but Kiawah is out of reach, where would you suggest?

  2. I was down there for a bachelor party and we played Wild Dunes. It was a really good track. The booze was flowing so the last few holes were a little sketchy. Did see some gators, so that was cool. I would play there again given the chance

If you have the connections to get on CC or Charleston, Bull's Bay or Yeamans Hall would be my recommendations. All three are great courses, especially if you are into course architecture and history.

Dunes West is semi private, in Mt Pleasant would be a good trek for you to go for. Edisto Island would be fun course to play along the ocean and not break the bank. Those courses Tyler mentioned are private you would need to play with a member. They are the top three in Charleston. Played Bulls Bay last week and it was in awesome condition. Their greens were something to behold. The Country Club of Charleston and Yeahmans were built around 1927. (Sadly the South Carolina Golf Club of Charleston, recorded as founded in 1786, is no more. There were annual notices, from 1788 to 1799, in the local press of golf meetings on Harleston's Green with the club's office holders, but nothing thereafter, though the Country Club of Charleston claims to be its inheritor in title. ) I agree with him, if you can get a reciprocal thru you club, any of those three would be worth the trip. Also the Daniel Island Club in Charleston has two great courses and it is a private club. The CCC will probably be closed during you visit due to preparation for the Women's US Open.

I played Patriots Point last year in April and it was nice. Nice views and on the water. Pretty wide open.

I'm heading to Kiawah on Wednesday. Anyone know the current course conditions at the Ocean Course?

It is for the most part always in pristine condition. It is the time of the year when the courses start aerating their greens in the low country. I would call and ask them upon arrival.

Believe it is supposed to be cool, windy and chance of rain. Recommend playing the shorter tees and having fun if it is windy. It can be a brute. I have played it many times.
