There's a reason I moved to San Diego. No wind or rain. I too played all my life (until 4 years ago) in North Texas wind and probably preferred wind over rain. I do an annual pilgrimage to Bandon Dunes in the winter to get my rain days in. Rained every day for a week when i did St. Andrews in 2016. Think i'm going to try it again in October 2019.

I used to say wind, but now with rain gloves I don't care if it rains. Hopefully our luck will be better than Dale's when we go to St. Andrews at the end of August.

I have played in both wind and rain. I prefer the wind. However that said, I will not play in wind above 25 mph. Hard for me to control the ball. One time I was on the west coast of Ireland and the wind was 30-40mph. There was a hurricane in the Atlantic. As difficult as it was I did not play the course. I did however walk the course just to see what I was missing. I have played in rain and it is hard to keep the grips dry.

Wind for me over rain. Here in FL you have to deal with wind a lot, but when it rains here, it's a deluge and usually accompanied with lightning. During the summer, PM T-storms are the norm. As a matter of fact, it's T-storming as I type this, but never fear, I finished my round at Noon.

We're in the high desert and wind is something we can count on just about each day. We don't get much rain here, but when it does rain, we just keep playing. When we were in Ireland last year, we ran into some rain, wind and hail. Sometimes all of them were together. I'm okay with that on occasion.

Wind definitely. Never been a good mudder. A little better now since the advent of rain gloves, but still not my favorite. A little knock down shot never hurt anyone.

Most rain I've played in was at Bandon and it was an absolute blast.. The gang, the caddies and the meatloaf waiting at McKees Pub made it epic. FJ kept me dry and warm, so Im taking rain because it lessens the crowds.

Rain, as long as it it not flooding the course. I have great FJ rain gear, wear DryJoys Tour and rain gloves when necessary. So, a light rain doesn't bother me near as much as a 20 knot wind. Now THAT gets in my head. Swing easy when it's breezy works, in theory, but it's not always so easy to commit to once that club starts back.

Overall I'd go with wind, but if the rain was just a very light drizzle or mist I'd prefer that as long as the course wasn't completely casual water.

I would go with wind, i’m more able to play with it than rain. Also i just hate rain, who doesn’t hate rain?

Only thing more to hate than rain, hail.
Man we had a lesson with our pro on practice holes and it started hailing. Couldn’t see a thing on the green. All white.

I feel like I'm a better rain player than wind. I don't mind either if it's warm. If you add the cold factor, I would prefer the one that isn't.

Rain all day. Rain is least consistent. Windy can be gusty and constantely changing directions.

In Kansas there are no calm days. So I don't mind the rain providing it's a manageable rain, like vertical not horizontal. My hands usually stay dry enough to play so it doesn't bother to play in the rain.

I am a sweeper so wet grass is not good for my swing. I don't carry an umbrella so I would rather play in the wind.

Wind over Rain for sure!
I recall the long gone days of playing in 30 degree driving rain storms in March.
I have been away too long from those rough Midwestern Springs.

This is a great debate! As long as it’s not a complete torrential downpour, I prefer rain over wind. I play in windy conditions most of the time and the wind makes it extremely difficult to judge club selection. Also, the wind usually dries out the greens much faster and makes it harder to hold greens. Rain usually makes the greens much softer and easier to go flag hunting. I’ll take a light rain over high wind any day!

Give me wind. It's easier to adjust for wind via club selection, direction, distance from green, etc. Rain just messes up EVERYTHING. Even adding clubs for length due to the damp/wet of the ground in and around the green, if it's wet enough, the ball just plugs. NO control over run out after a good/great hit...plus, let's just admit it if you have a rainsuit, it's hot after awhile and uncomfortable. If you don't have one, you have to deal with the wetness of your clothing and the added weight from the wet clothes, too. All in all, give me wind any day.
