He had undoubtedly lost trust in his stroke, however, the putting with the eyes closed drill has helped him regain confidence in his stroke and it might become 'permanent'.

Sergio claims that he has been doing it on and off for years; even during his Masters win in 2017.

During the Sanderson Farms Championship, it is the first time I have noticed him doing it with his lag and short putts.

Does he actually do it all the time? Will he keep doing it?

Have you ever tried it as a drill? Would you dare/Have you dared try it in competition?

  2. No, I don’t think your probability of sinking a putt is nearly as high as when you actually look at the hole, then ball.

Looks to me like he "peaked" on the last putt allbeit a short one. His eyes appeared to open just as the putter touched the ball. Either way, he played like the old Sergio. Not a big fan but credit is due. I did try the drill while practicing but never in competition. That drill is as old as dirt.

If memory serves me, Nick Faldo did this during his prime. Not sure if he did it in competition or just as a practice drill. I can't remember what he said about putting with his eyes closed.

Certainly have tried shutting my eyes on the practice green and it does free up your stroke...I don't have the "guts" to try it when it really matters!
  6. I have never putt with eyes closed during a round, but I have "kept my eyes on the hole" on some putts inside 6 feet. I think I heard it from Rory once before ... it keeps my eyes from following the putter during takeaway. 2 for 2 using it inside 6 feet!

I tried it because a guy in our group dared me during a round. He knows I stick with my routine and never change. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Try it, you may like it. I eventually went back to my routine.
