While Sophia Popov was not decked out in Titleist logos or apparently playing any Titleist clubs, I'm certain I saw the familiar script a closeup of her ball in the rough on hole #15. Coming into the week at the Open at #304, having jumped from #394 with 9th place at the Marathon, her performance on Sunday was a work of art. Fairways, GIR's great putting, and timely birdies to keep the challengers at bay. It took the stars aligning to allow her to play her way in and then have the week of her life. Winning also finally got her LPGA card, as she has been toiling on the Symetra Tour for awhile.

Congratulations on a tournament well played for a memory of a lifetime.

Had the talent all along but really bad timing and long wait to diagnose and then recover from her Lyme disease. Like Jimmy Walker, still battling it years later. Nasty stuff that Lyme disease. It was a fun weekend to watch Sophia and Dustin play some pretty solid golf.

A great story for sure. Because of Covid 19 cutting the season short, the LPGA ruled that all 2020 status would be moved to 2021 which meant that with no Q-School this year, Sophia would have had to spend 2021 back on the Symetra Tour. Of course that's all behind her now. A feelgood ending in a year when we need all we can get.

I saw her being interviewed after her final round and she mentioned how cold she had found it here at times out on the links........and here was me thinking it had been tropical over the past week ....lol.

I did not know much about her story, but after reading a couple of articles about Sophia, she is a testament to human resilience.

Due to Covid-19, she was able to play at Royal Troon; every cloud has a silver lining.

Sophia Popkov so far is the golf story of the year. So happy to see her come from #304 to win and a major no less.
Had no idea she battled Lyme disease. Makes the story even better.

I really enjoyed watching her win! One putt after another going dead center in the hole. One shot that stood out for me, an iron from 144, blind shot with just the flag visible over a dune. Frickin nailed it, high and crisp right on the flag. The chick had it going, for sure. She's got a great swing and I hope she is on leader boards a lot in the future.
