I work for a South Korean company. There's a Titleist store in Suwon that's very pricey. In the same area there's other golf stores from different manufacturers. Golf is a luxury there and it's expensive. Simulator golf is very popular.

When've I gone to Japan, I buy a suitcase from the Bic Camera department store. But it's for the gifts my wife gets for friends and relatives.

I worked in the merchandise tent at the 2012 US Open at the Olympic Club and Korean men and women would buy 20-30 $100 golf shirts for resale in Korea. I wanted them ti ask why they didn't go directly to the manufacturer or to the USGA and get a better detail.

I agree, better of booking a flight over to Japan with an empty suitcase. I recently just did this where I spent my time in Tokyo and Victoria Golf had a special sale for members with 20% off Titleist apparel! The YEN compared to the AUD was fantastic at the time as well.

It's been over 30 years since I was in Korea but at that time, you been could have any logo you wanted put on clothing while you waited. swoosh shoes were going for about $10 a pair.

Not to mention the size differences. I have seen some Titleist Japan shirts sized as Large that wouldn’t fit the Houston Astros second baseman.

For personal use, it's ok (as long as as you buy enough to offset the shipping), but no chance at being able to make any money reselling it. You'd probably be better taking a trip there and filling a second suitcase with gear to bring home.

When our friends come over from Asia they stock up on leading brands here in the states as well as other countries. Not only in sports equipment but other retail areas. You will see them standing in line at really high end retail stores, that only allow a few customers in at a time such as Louis Vuitton handbags. We noticed that when we were in Paris and Barcelona. I have a friend that is a regional manager for Edwin Watts. Has been with them forever. He told me it was nothing for them to come into his store when he was the manager here and spend 10-20 thousand dollars on golf equipment and have it shipped back to Asisa. Including the tarifs and shipping, it was much cheaper to purchase it here. Everything over there is very expensive.

I believe there are company differentiations between the US parent and the Asian subsidiary which allows them to do branding differently and provide things unique to their marketplace. They are therefore not allowed to export worldwide so you must go there to purchase those items or buy them from a second source like eBay. I also believe most of their items are manufactured in China and Acushnet does not have the same direct manufacturing agreements with those providers. As for the last part of your question, maybe watch broadcasts of the Asian Tour tournaments and you will see some unique outfits not seen on US players.

Japan is like that as well. I have a contact there that can order for me from the site, but it's costly. www.titleist.co.jp
is their site, and there a lot of options. I do not know the answer and at one point I was thinking about importing a bunch and selling on eBay, but there really is no 3rd party profit a there.
