A vintage hickory putter found at Goodwill

Any hickory club collectors out there? I picked up this gem for $3 at a Goodwill story in suburban Atlanta today. AI research tells me it's legit. H&B Powerbilt model 47 with Reg. 4780 on the sole. Shaft and grip appear to be original. AI says it's likely from the early 1930s. Curious what it's worth to a collector. Thanks, David Wilson Johns Creek, GA dewilson513@att.net

GTS2 Fitting

Had a driver fitting yesterday at the Titleist Regional Fitting Centre in BC, Canada with Tom, who’s the most knowledgeable fitters I’ve ever met.

Last year I was fit into a GT2 9° with a Tensei 1K Black 75X cut down ½”. Since then, I’ve been taking lessons and making some significant swing changes, so it was time to see what fit me now.

I ended up in a GTS2 10° with a Project X Titan Black 60 6.5 at standard length. The biggest surprise wasn’t more distance—I was still in the 270–290 yard range, with a couple over 300. The biggest gains came from dispersion and getting my spin numbers into a much better window.

What really stood out was the fitting experience itself. Tom spent a lot of time changing weights, explaining how the different CG settings in the GTS2 affected launch, spin, and forgiveness, and why we ended up in the neutral A1 hosel setting compared to the A4 setting on my previous GT2. I left understanding why the changes worked, not just with a new club.

It was a great reminder that fittings aren’t always about chasing more distance. Sometimes it’s about finding the setup that gives you the most confidence and consistency. Looking forward to getting the new driver on the course

GTS delivery time

So I went for my fitting for GTS driver and fairway woods. Ended up ordering GTS4 driver, GTS2 3 wood, GTS3 5 and 7 wood. Ordered 3 weeks now and still no sign, see shops now have them in, a bit gutted not to have received them yet. Anyone else finding the same?

I tested and preorder my GTS2 5w on 06/03. Titleist took longer than originally expected and shipped my order on 07/08 and it was delivered on 07/16. I was told that I’d have the club in a wwwk or two so when that fell through I just went to pga superstore and bought a GTS3 5w off the rack.

Today I finally got around to returning the GTS2 which was still sealed in Titleist’s delivery box and picked up a GTS300 mini driver. I wanted the Titan Black shaft option which wasn’t available in store so I went with the Tensei white shaft instead of waiting another 6+ weeks for an order to be delivered.

I echo what Chuck says. My first stop when I've had infrequent issues with Titleist equipment is my local retailer or on-course pro shop. They usually handle things for me. All that said, I’ve never been a fan of the velcro on Scotty headcovers. It just doesn’t hold up well.

Painful warranty process

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Scotty Cameron 11OC putter - 900.00 retail. Love the putter! I am a huge fan and was a bit of a collector. Anyways, recently I have been dealing with warranty for a replacement headcover - the Velcro has failed already after a few months - never had this issue with other Scotty’s but have had friends that did however. I have been given a complete run around to get the headcover replaced. I don’t quite understand why Titleist would make me go through all this just for a headcover - I provided pictures and clearly own the putter. As an aside, the grip is falling apart too - might just be the new chain link version- a buddy has same putter - he got matador grip instead - no issue with grip or headcover. I am pretty frustrated. The easy fix would have been to just send me a new cover and grip. Thoughts anyone? Losing faith here!

New clubs in the bag.

Purchased an entire set of new clubs for the first time in 15 years. 4 wedges p-5 T-100 4 T-150 Driver gts3 and a 7 wood.

Driver finally came in yesterday. Rushed to the course for commercial league, no warm up and first swing with the gts3 with the plastic still on and took home the long drive on that hole.

Last week I took home the kp on the par 3 with a hard to hold green on inter club night which is not my best part of my game.

Wedges are spinning back like i have not seen in a long time.

Super happy with the equipment.

Updating today as I received an email letting me know my GTS 3 has shipped. That is faster than I expected, but the SM11 54 F has not yet been updated. I don't need that quite as quickly, though.

I've been golfing for about 10 years now and always had a 4 Iron. Could hit it well, but wasn't always consistent. About 2 years ago my dad got me a 4 hybrid for Christmas and I've enjoyed it ever since. Now I didn't get fitted for it, but I'm not going to complain when gifted something like that. I felt there wasn't a learning curve switching from the iron to hybrid and it has stayed consistent compared to my other clubs (when you play several good rounds and then out of no where you cant hit anything). On the mental side it has given me the confidence to hit out of the thicker grass and I feel like I can hit it well when there's wind.

Now this isn't back by any science, but mentally if you feel confident hitting a hybrid compared to an iron it seems like the move. I've never tried hitting a hybrid below the 4 so I can't say what it would be like to have more ( I have my 3h and 4h), but it definitely will give you more flexibility when you are stuck in places.

At the end of it when it feels good and you mentally feel good why not switch.

Aging (50) has me considering getting rid of the traditional 3 and 4 iron. I have been playing a hybrid for these clubs and I really like it. Just kind of stings a little when you make the switch. I hit the hybrid much better though. Pride goes out the window if I save a few shots on the course.

Velcro is garbage. It was never designed to be durable on any product.
Move to America. We get better customer service.

One of the nice advantages of the Titleist hybrids is that you can adjust loft from 1* stronger to 2* weaker than the static head loft. This will give you some ability to adjust carry distances, but it will still be better to try some different heads/lofts to get a starting point. Generally, hybrids have a slightly longer shaft than the 'corresponding' iron, and this accounts for some of the extra distance from a hybrid. They also tend to launch higher than irons for golfers who don't have a lot of swing speed.

TSR2 replacement for714 AP2 4 iron

j22abe is closer than he realizes in his reply. If you notice any of the following:

1. ball speed between clubs varies by less than 4 or 5 mph
2. carry distance increment is smaller than between other, shorter clubs
3. peak height and/or angle of descent is too low to hold a green

then the offending club(s) are simply adding weight in your bag. The solution is usually to go to a larger clubhead/chassis, meaning to try a larger iron head (T150 to T250 to T350), going to a utility iron (if available in appropriate loft), going to a hybrid, going to a higher lofted fairway metal.

My preferred local practice range has Top Tracer at all stations, and it was very easy to determine where things started to bunch up. My longest iron is now the 6, following with a 5 hybrid, a 7 metal, and a 4 metal (which I use primarily from a tee as I can't launch it high enough from the fairway to outcarry the 7 metal but which will give me a longer total distance than it off a tee), and then a driver.

Adding to Barry and Chuck's fitting thoughts, I strongly suggest doing it outdoors so that ball flight can be observed. I am not a big fan of hitting into a net and letting the monitor tell me what is happening even though the current launch monitors present useful information. A true fitting professional might also be able to give you some information about what your swing is doing or might need adjusting to maximize a new to you driver. It will be difficult, though, to get a fitting for a prior generation product as most fitters return the obsolete models once new ones are introduced.

So many times, I see golfers tell the fitter what they want/need. Most of the time, the fitter will be able to show the golfer what performs best and why. Trust an experienced Titleist fitter. They go through a strong training program to help dial in the variables of the new products.

I can understand the notion of saving substantial $$ with a pre-owned or demo club. You may or may not find one that suits your specs (shaft, primarily). If you spend more for a new/current model driver, you won't shouldn't need to upgrade for at least a couple of generations (WANT to upgrade is a totally different topic!).

Just an FYI for anyone with orders in process or about to be placed.....Did a fitting last week and the fitter said Titleist is shutting down all of their production for 2 full weeks in order to implement/upgrade a bunch of their process software.....so ship times for almost all orders are about 4-5 weeks right now. At least that's what I was told last week....I think the fitter said his system said "35 days"

i had been playing with a 3/4 iron for a long time. Then the first time i got fitted, they recommended a hybrid and i was smart and took their advice and it’s been an amazing club. especially when hitting an errant t shot into some tough rough.
