  1. I decided the hell with it and picked up a set of lightly used 716 AP2’s off eBay. Will be first time gaming Titleist irons, hope I like em. I know there just outside my handicap currently but willing to do the work, and since I live on a golf course, i have more opportunity than most for practice. Last year I bought 917d3 and I have found a club that can talk to a hook “Lee Trevino” and have successfully put that hook to bed. So I thought give me the good stuff and we will see how I play. Thoughts anyone?

Hopefully you will be happy and they will work well for you. Ideally, we always suggest getting fit to ensure lie and shaft flex suit your needs and maximize your capability but these could be right for you. If they don't work out, might look for a Titleist Thursday near you and see what a free fitting tells you. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving. Hit'm straight and stay safe.

Welcome to TT and congrats on your first post. AP2s are great irons. I have 718 APs and you 'll be happy with them I'm sure. They are top shelf in Titleist irons. The D3 is another winner. There are alot of Tour players still using AP2 irons. Keep us posted and a good idea to keep your profile at 100%.

Played AP2s for years. Started with the 710 model, all the way up to the 716s (which I still have in my back-up bag), before finally moving on to the T200s. I think I like my AP2-716s more, quite frankly. At least in the shorter irons, I do. I admit, the forgiveness in the T200 longer irons is welcomed.

I started playing AP2s back when my handicap was about a 12. I just loved the way they looked. Like you, I too was a little nervous they might be too much club for my ability at the time. In fact, they helped me sharpen my game in the long run. It was actually one of the best moves I ever made.

I would definitely get them checked for loft and lie. Mine needed slight adjustment every now and then. Mostly my PW-7i. Also, just to make sure you have the best shaft in them for your swing, you may want to consider a shaft fitting. Some fitting establishments, like Club Champion might still have AP2-716 6 or 7i fitting-heads they can use to help you with that. Good luck with the new sticks.

I have a set of those and they are actually easier to hit than you might think, even though it is listed as a players iron. Love them!

Welcome Chris. D3 is a great choice; I still have the 910 D3 in the bag! Happy Thanksgiving.

  8. Thanks everyone for the responses, I will be sure to get in as soon as I can to get my AP2’s checked out for loft and lie. Does anyone have preference from fitting experience from one of the following; golf headquarters, golf galaxy, dicks sporting goods, or 2nd swing?

I'm still playing my 714 AP2's as well. I was a 9 hdcp when I got them and have dropped to an 11. It's not the cluns fault though, I just don't get to play as much. The AP2's are surprisingly forgiving but I have been eyeing the T300's.
