    Hello,

I have a Fujikura Speeder HB 8.8 TS stiff flex hybrid shaft that measures 40in from tip to butt of grip (39.75in w/o grip). I bought the shaft second-hand. The shaft came from an 816h which I believe was 19 degrees, but I am not 100% certain. With the shaft currently installed into my 915h the total playing length measures 40.5in which correlates to total playing length of a 915h 18 degree and a 816h 19 degree hybrid. If this is true, would this shaft have been tip trimmed before adapter install? Per the Fujikura website, hybrid shafts 15-20 degree do not receive trimming. So my educated guess would be no. The reason I'm asking is because I want to install the shaft into my 21 degree 915h. I know the Fujikura shaft is 1/2 inch longer than the stock shaft currently in my 915h. The stock shaft in my 915h measures 39.5in tip to butt of grip with total club playing length of 40in. Per the Fujikura website, hybrid shafts for 21-23 degree hybrids should be tip trimmed 1/2 inch. Basically, my question is, should I trim the 1/2 inch from the tip or butt so that the Fujikura shaft plays the same length as the stock 915h shaft? My assumption is to tip trim the 1/2 inch so I end with the same length and "true shaft flex" for the Fujikura, but I wanted some opinions on if my assumption is correct. Thanks for any insight.

One December 7, 2017 Titleist sent me confirmation that their published lengths are before gripping and based on your measurement of the new shaft with and without grip the butt of the grip measures 1/4 inch. Thus, if this shaft is standard length when placed in your 21 degree 915H the finished/playing length should 40.75 inches- your measurement of 40.5 inches would indicate the club's finished to be 1/4 inch shorter than standard. I believe you are right that the shaft wasn't tip trimmed- according to the shaft's specs the uncut parallel tip should be 2.5 inches so I would go ahead and tip to 2 inches to achieve the required flex and same length as your current shaft. If the required tipping is less that .5 inches you can trim the balance from the butt.
