  1. Are titleist clubs only for better players? I play off 18 and really like the look of the 917 driver but I'm told I'm not good enough to game it

With a properly fit shaft the 917 has ample adjustment for your level of ability.

"The club fits the golfer not the golfer fits the club"

Any club that is fitted for you by a professional fitter is one you can game. If you go see a Professional Tilteist Fitter he will fit you and you'll be gaming Titleist clubs. May not be the 917 could be a TS or 915. Simple as that.

    PS.
Properly fitted Titleist clubs make you better too.

What Darryl said... Schedule a fitting on a Titleist Thursday and let them fit you... Period. AP1's are fantastic clubs for all players and very forgiving...

And always remember, it's the Indian, not the arrow. I've been told that MANY times with the amount of clubs i've purchased :)

No doubt about it. A professional Titleist fitter will get you dialed in to the best performing clubs for you and your swing.

A good investment if you are wild with driver would be lessons. Drivers with a greater offset to help with a slice can only do so much. There are very few "game improvement drivers" in the market. The ultimate solution is to fix the out to in swing. If that's not your swing fault, then a good fitter can really dial in a Titleist driver for you. I was poorly fit for a 915, the 917 added 20 yards and as I've worked with a TS2, I've added another 10-20 yards. 3 years ago I was on a 24 and could barely get 200 yards. 235-240 are now possible. I'm only an 18 now(short game/putting turn birdie/par into bogey/bogey +). The information either came from someone with opinions dating back 15-20 years or will get a better commission on another driver. Just like you have to be a tour pro to use a Pro-V.
  7. There is definitely a Titleist driver that will fit your swing with proper fitting. It's not like your an 18 handicap wondering if you can play blades. The 917 D2 and D3 can fit anyone with the right head, hosel fitting, loft and shaft,

Get properly fit, you will be longer and straighter and see your handicap drop - "Strokes gained driving". If you want to save money, 917's are now in Pro Shops at a discount, you can later move up, but get fitted, on grass with a Trackman if you can. Even if you don't belong to a private club, many clubs will let you come to a demo day.
