Forgiveness?

I just completed my very first full bag fitting, and was extremely surprised with the results. Knowing my own capabilities, I went into the fitting with the assumption that I would be fit into an iron set with more offset, thicker top line, longer/wider club face (more room for tungsten) and in consequence more forgiving all around.

This was not the case, I came out with T-100s's from 4-PW. During the fitting I found myself incapable of striking what should have been the more forgiving irons purely and on the ones where I was able to connect, something still just didn't feel right.

The only reasonable explanation I can find is that I learnt the sport using my dads very small/thin/old i3 Pings. Because of this, I am just more comfortable looking down at a smaller club face. Also, because the club face is smaller, it makes me feel like I have less room to make a mistake, in comparison to having a larger club face where I feel as if I have more of a chance of hitting it largely out of the toe or vice versa the heel.

Has anyone else had a similar experience while being fit for newer irons or when thinking about how much the word forgiveness is thrown around?

What I can say for sure is I'm always wrong with what I think I will get versus what I get fitted for. When it comes to the club head, shaft, and flex, I might as well play the ponies for a Trifecta. The odds are about the same. Expert advice is just that.

Forgiveness is a broad definition. Off-center hits and ease of launch are both forgiving. I need more of the ease of launch. At a fitting, the T-200 and T-300 were forgiving enough, but the T-400 was longer when if accounting for the loft variances.
