    I currently game a set of Titleist AP3's with an AP1 4 Iron as the long iron. These were purchase in 2017 and I average close to 75 rounds per year (with additional time spent on the range). A couple of years ago I had an issue where the 8 iron head flew off during play. I recall I had another iron that had a loos head as well. I think it was the 7 iron. I cleaned them both up and epoxied them back onto the shafts. While playing yesterday, I noticed the ferrule on the 4 iron was separated from the head of the club. After closer inspection at home I found it was indeed the head that came loose. With the shaft in the vice and just using my hands, I managed to wiggle the head off the shaft which means it was not going to be long before it came off on it's own. I have re-installed it and will be able to put it back in play after the 24 hour set time for the epoxy. I am curious if I am alone in this, or if others are experiencing this problem... I know the clubs are almost 5 years old now, but I know friends with clubs that they are playing with after 12 years and longer without any issues... I treat my clubs well. They get wiped down after every shot, and are never left in the trunk after my round. They come home with me and are put into the front hallway as soon as I get home so it is not like they are left to cook out in the sun... Any thoughts ??? Any suggestions ???

    The old adage of "They don't make 'em like they used to!" comes to mind. Talk to the people who sold them to you and reference the/your 8 iron and 7 iron timeline to your present 4 iron discovery.... see what they say or can do.

    Darius, there was a period where the epoxy supplier had provided some bad batches and it was not discovered until clubs began to fail in the field. I cant remember the timing but these might have been around that time frame. If it was me and I had a couple break down within the entire set, I would get them to a club repair shop and have them all re-glued just for the peace of mind standing over each shot. Even clubs where the epoxy has not had historical issues, over time, that is the point where it could break down. Extreme temps will certainly make that happen quicker but I don't think I would be surprised if it happened on a club that was 10 years old or older that had been stored in perfect conditions. Back in the old days some manufactures used to run a pin through the hosel which I know was a pain to remove but gave that extra assurance that the head would not come off during play. Again, up to you but I think if I was going to keep playing them for the long haul, I would get them all set with new epoxy.

    I bought my AP3 irons in 2018 and have the same issues with my 5 & 6 iron separating. Titleist may have had a bad batch of epoxy or something and could offer to have the heads re-assembled at the end of our season ! At least offer up some solution to the problem.
    I am now afraid that the head is going to fly off while playing so I try to make sure no one is in the line of fire so they don't get hurt.
    I think the inconsistency with distances for both 5 & 6 irons maybe due to the partial separation?

    Joel, there is nothing they can do via this forum. I suggest you talk to Customer Service and give them details including serial number and date of purchase so they can verify if your issue is related to those epoxy issues. I assume that requests will eventually go beyond a reasonable time of discovery. Customer Service contact info is at the bottom of this website. Good luck hope you get your issue resolved.

    i'm running on a split set of 3,4,5 AP1's and 6-9 AP2's and have never had any issues with the heads coming loose (knock on wood)! I've got some friends that are playing Titleist gear too and haven't ever heard of any issues from them. Hopefully these are few and far between. In the mean time, enjoy your golf and hot summer weather. It won't be long 'til fall golf arrives!

    Stephen... I had a set of AP1's that I played for at least 7 years before I upgraded to my 718 AP3's and never had any issues with the heads on them either. I have a feeling it was just a bad batch of epoxy that was used when Joel and I had out clubs made.... I will remove the suspect heads and re-install as I really do not see any other option now !
