    I got thinking about golf records and how they could be affected by the new FedEx Cup process this year. It gets scary.. East Lake is played as a Par 70. The current 18 hole record score of 60 was set by Zach Johnson in 2007. This year, Justin Thomas will be at 60 before he even hits his first shot ! If he merely shoots 2 under he will tie Jim Furyk's 58 from the final round of the Travellers in 2016. If he shoots 10 under like he did on Saturday at the BMW, he would walk in with a total score of 50 ! So the question is - How low of a scoring record can he set with a great first round given that he starts at -10. That is not to say one of the other top 5 couldn't light it up on Thursday, but Justin sure has a jump start on the field and the record books for sure. Before everyone jumps on it - Yes there would have to be an Asterix next to this record... However it does make one start thinking about the possibilities :)

    Yes, it will be strange indeed. In reality, the way that the scores work *should* be treated as "records" for the purpose of the FedEx Cup playoffs only and not as individual course records. I was reading that Rory thought that the scores should be reset and not carried over and there is more logic to that than carrying over the scores. But, I suppose that this change will take some "getting used to".

    And yes, you're right; if JT comes in with a low score on Thursday (say -10) then he would come in with a "cumulative" score of 50! I guess only time will tell as to how this all plays out.

    I agree with Rory, this is a different tournament so the scores should be reset.

    Well, Thursday's round put an end to this discussion.

    The real question now is whether JT can regroup for the remaining three rounds. He has some solid competition for the FedEx win. I suspect that it will come down to JT and Koepka. Koepka is probably "manufacturing" cause for motivation with the SI Magazine "Body Issue" and to look at putting an emphatic end to the season and solidifying his claim for POY honours.

    JT, like a true champion, will want to rebound and demonstrate his mettle and show that he can take down Koepka. So, with that backdrop it makes the season ending event at East Lake a "must watch" along with our very own CP WOMEN'S Open.
