  1. Early season games are tough. Starting out with a new set of irons adds to the anxiety. You can practice indoors, and hit 100 putts a night in your living room, but it still takes time to get your game back. Add in the fact that your home course has punched their greens and you start to doubt yourself. Am I getting older, and maybe I won’t be able to post the scores I used to. But then you have a game like today. The course is next to empty because of weather and you start out 4 over par on the first 3 holes, but you still think your game is close. And then you hit your new 6 iron to 15 feet and make the putt, and then you hit two 7 irons and make another birdie, and suddenly the game is there. You end up carding a 78, and maybe you are not too old after all. Can’t wait until tomorrow.

    Great story, verry relatable feeling!
What new irons are you sporting?
Can’t wait to get out on the course myself.
  3. I was fitted last October at the Titleist centre at Eagle's Nest. I went with the AP3s with a regular graphite shaft. Club head speed increased on average by 2 mph. So far on the course this year, I have not really noticed an increase in distance yet, but warm weather really just arrived 10 days ago. However, compared to my previous png Gs, I am hitting the ball higher, and on a much straighter line. I seem to be giving myself much better looks at birdie, and more often.

Alas... I feel your pain ! I too have had similar experiences. Unfortunately the rounds do not always end up as well as one would hope. The important thing is that we are still out there enjoying the experience with our friends. With any luck at all, they will be suffering the drop in ability at the same rate as us so we can all remain somewhat competitive even though it may be at a different level than we are used to. My new AP3's and 917 driver have helped me gain back some of my lost yardage and accuracy, but surely that can only last for so long :)
  5. Hi Darius, it is a constant battle with father time, but as long as we stay in the battle. The new clubs are definitely helping.

I'm also battling a bad swing, don't know if it's my new irons in my head or working out trying toget stronger and faster over the winter. Probably the ladder because the worst part is my driving. I guess it's time for a lesson.

Todd... If you find you are trying to hit it further by swinging faster you will truly benefit from slowing down and focussing on tempo. Slow back and smooth through the ball. If you concentrate on tempo, your power swing will still work and you should find the centre of the club face more often ! I often find that with a smooth swing I tend to hit it further and more on target. Tempo is king !!!
