  1. TT was hoping to get some insight on somethings. I am having knee surgery in 2 weeks to repair tears in both of my meniscus and ACL in my left knee. So If anyone has gone through this any insight on recovery time and rehab would be great. Thanks again

I had some knee issues that I developed a couple years ago by too much aggressive movement in my swing. It was rough, but never to the point of surgery.

I did play, even in pain, with a full brace on my knee that prevented the bad movement and while it was difficult, it did help me stop that movement and I eventually got better (along with some exercises to help strengthen it).

    I hope you recover quickly!

I have not had the surgery as yet, but my surgeon has given me a great outlook on the recovery. Let me preface my comments with some background. I am over 60. My first ACL tear (complete) was when I was in my late 20's. We did not repair it but worked via PT to get strong enough to not do an ACL repair. I have torn the MCL, PCL and medial meniscus in the same knee over the years. As of right now, I am bone on bone and have some osteoarthritis forming.

Given all of that, my schedule looks like this:
3 weeks pre-op PT to build more leg strength
    walking the day after surgery
    1-2 weeks of post-op PT 3 to 5 days a week
limited range time using my pre-op brace about 4 weeks after surgery
My MD thinks I can be back to full practice and full swings on course 6 weeks
    post op

    Best of luck to you!

I've had my left knee scoped, but no ACL issues. After getting scoped my doc had me on a stationary bike after a week. Started real slow and worked up the speed over time. It was a great way to work the knee with out the stress from having all my weight on the knee while walking. Even with my "minor" surgery I was restricted from any golf activities for about 8 weeks.
Good luck with your surgery and stick to the plan your doc and physical therapist layout for you.

Hello Joseph, I had the same surgery about 10 years ago. Everyone is different. The amount of effort you put into your rehab will have a direct effect on the amount of time you will be out. It took several months before I was able to get around without any pain. It was a bit longer before I felt confident enough to put weight on it to swing. Best of luck with your surgery. Keep us posted on your success.
    Play Well,

Hello Joseph, I had orthoscopic surgery on my left torn meniscus about 5 years ago and I was putting in 2 weeks from the day of surgery, chipping after 4 weeks of surgery and swinging on the driving range by the end of week 6. I started playing after week 8. I have also torn my right meniscus and opted in for PT treatment instead of surgery. I was not able to swing a club for 6 weeks. However, I opted out of surgery on the right side because of additional information about having torn meniscus surgery and the side effects later in life. I am currently 62.

    Good luck with your decision.

My wife is having arthroscopic surgery on her left torn meniscus Thursday and the doctor wants her up and walking the next day with the assistance of crutches. Says she can go back to work in about two to three weeks. She is not a golfer, so I imagine it will be a bit longer with the stress on the knee. It is in and out surgery with two small incisions. She has had the PT and shots. We need to get her well so our trip to Australia in the spring. Lots of walking. No golf.

  9. I had surgery on my meniscus last April. The best advice I received was how you treat the first 3 days after surgery, determines the next 3 months. ( I took that as the first 5 days would determine the next 5 months). Meaning, stay off of your knee for about 3 days and ice, ice, ice and then ice some more. I used ice for several weeks after the surgery. I also took rehab very seriously. I was on an elliptical and or bike after about a week, and was playing golf within 6 weeks. I believe PT lasted for about 2+ weeks.
Good luck and do your due diligence and rehab the correct way.

I broke my Tibia on my left leg in July and I'm back on the links today not 100% but with a proper PT regimen and exercise routine with time all will be good.

    Cheers,

Was out about 6 weeks with mine. But used the entire time on the putting green time well spent. Just a thought but really improved my putting

Patience is the key - follow your surgeon's guidance and therapist's advice. I had a full left knee ACL reconstruction when I was 40 [30 years ago]. I snow ski 5 weeks every, play tennis 3 times a week and golf 4 times a week.

BE PATIENT AND YOU CAN MAKE A FULL RECOVERY!
  13. Sound terrible! Good luck in your recovery...

With an ACL it will be no twisting (full shots) for 4-6 months. Could start putting in a month chip shots at 3 months probably.

    Good Luck
