Yesterday I had a fitting at the Manchester Lane Facility. All I have to say is wow! It was like being a kid in a candy store! My fitter Chris O'Rourke was awesome. I cannot say enough nice things about the guy. He got me dialed in real nice! I highly recommend doing this if you can, you will not regret it at all! Also listen to them, they know what they are talking about. First time I have ever been fitted like a pro and needless to say my current clubs are to long and to upright! I am 6'3" and was told (by a box store) that I needed an +1/2 to 1" in my irons and wedges. Guess what, they were wrong! So here is my new set up.

    Driver: 917 D2, A-1, CG neutral, 10.5* 45", Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7 (X-stiff), tipped 1", swing weight D4

    3 Wood: 917 F2, 16.5*, A-1, CG neutral, 42.5", Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 (X-stiff), tipped 1.5", swing weight D4

    816 H1, 19*, A-1, standard length, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 105 Hyb (X-stiff), swing weight D4.

T-MB 4iron, standard loft, standard lie, standard length, KBS Tour (X-stiff), swing weight D4

AP2 5 iron, standard loft, standard lie, standard length, KBS Tour (X-stiff), swing weight D4

AP2 6-PW, 1* weak on the loft, standard lie, standard length, KBS Tour (X-stiff), swing weight D4

I am ordering the driver and 3 wood today and going to wait on the hybrid and iron until the new ones get released.

Regardless of ability, if you are serious about golf, get the best professionals help to get professional equipment and professional swing advice. You can cut corners buying from the internet or on a deal at the box store to save off the rack. But you lose value with the not quite right tool. My advanced fitting center is great, but Manchester was as magical with the hundreds of shafts all lined up behind you.

Luke - care to share what the 917 D2 did compared to your current gamer? I gained 20 yards and still stand on the tee box in awe what I just hit. Unlike the 915 from a box store that lost 10 yards over the 913 I went back to.

Hi Dan O, my current gamer is the cally Epic Sub Zero. Which I hit pretty good but it way to low spinning for me, like 1500 to 1700. So on my mishits they are really bad. Also the ball just seems to die in the air. With the set up that Chris put together for me the ball just penetrated and flew through the air. Ball speed went from 160 with the Epic to 167 with the D2. Carry distance was between 275 and 280 with the D2 and that is with increase spin rate around 2300. And my mishits with the D2 where not as punishing as with the Epic. But the most important this is my dispersion was so much tighter with the D2. Also I love the sound of the D2 compared to the dull sound of the Epic.

My company's HQ is about 1.5hrs from Manchester Lane. Every time I'm travelling out there for a visit I toy with scheduling a fitting. I just have not been able to make it work! Someday though.

Good stuff, Luke. Thanks for sharing!

We're here in the west side, Oceanside and also hoping to have my time there for irons.

Manchester Lane is an outstanding facility. The wedge area in the back is second to none.

It's an awesome place and really opened my eyes a lot. I have been fortunate to go to the ELY performance center in Carlsbad and I would say that Manchester Lane takes the cake.

All 3 on order yesterday morning with a Titleist Rep. Should be here in about 10 days or less with overnight shipping. I decided to get the 816 H1 hybrid instead of waiting for the new 818. I cannot wait for them to get here.

Luke- Can you share your experience on the iron length? How did they measure? Did you feel your old irons were too long? Did they test length on multiple irons?

I'm a little over 6'2" with long arms. Over the past 7 years, I have been playing AP2s 1/2" long. I got "fitted" at a club, but I think the pro just looked at my height and said, "your irons should be 1/2" longer."

My lie is also 2* upright, which makes the irons effectively feel longer. While I am good with my short and mid irons, I always felt like my long irons were too long but went with it telling myself that the pro is right.

P_Lamps- He didn't measure me. He just watched me hit balls and was looking at the numbers on trackman with the current set I was gaming (716 AP2's, project X 7.0) was +1/2" and 2* upright. He said you do not need longer clubs or need to be 2* upright, you are 6'3" with long arms and built a 7 iron with standard length and standard lie. Immediately I felt more comfortable with the club in my hands and my strike was way more consistent. My big left miss was gone. Which Chris said was a factor from the 2* upright and the club being to long. To answer your second ?, yes I did feel my irons at the time were to long, especially the long irons. Once we were set on the standard length we tested multiple shafts on the AP2's and T-MB's. The KBS, AP2's produced the best numbers for me.
