Next up in our series of posts answering the questions you asked about golf ball fitting... Richard H. from Joplin, MO asks:

Q: In the Titleist fitting brochure, you stress the importance of the on-course evaluation. But what other options are there for golfers who don’t have access to a dedicated short game area?

A: This is a great question, Richard. We know that it can sometimes be challenging to work from the green back to the tee or to find a dedicated short game area, so another alternative that we recommend is to play the front 9 holes with one golf ball model and then play the back 9 holes with the second model.

When you finish your round, think about it in terms of the green-to-tee methodology. Which one of those golf balls performed better on the shots into and around the green? Really use that type of green-to-tee mindset when you're analyzing the performance of the golf balls and making a decision on which golf ball is best for you.

Another potential option would be to go out late in the afternoon, when the course may not be as busy and you have an opportunity to set two balls down side by side. Play a bunch of different shots with the two models as you're making your way around the golf course so you can experience that side-by-side comparison and see the performance differences between the golf balls.

As a reminder, the reason why we recommend this green-to-tee approach is because the vast majority of shots played by every golfer are into and around the green. Looking at the golf ball's performance on those shots and focusing on those results is going to benefit every golfer. It also gives you the opportunity to compare different golf ball models side by side. When you want to experience and see the performance differences between golf balls, hitting shots side by side is really the best way to do that.
