718 Fitting Session

Simon B

Many thanks to Hannah for organising my fitting session with Ben Hiscock, the SW England rep, yesterday at Long Ashton.

Ben was kind enough to spend 3 hours going through the various 718 options and the SM7 selection. It was very comprehensive, don't think I've ever hit so many range balls in one session!

Comparing my Trackman stats to the Tour averages was really interesting. Of course amateurs can't get close to ball / clubhead speed and carry distance but flight apex and angle of descent are achievable and this is what Ben concentrated on - a higher ball flight and apex with a steeper angle of attack.

He achieved this by fitting me in to TMB's (4-9) with Project X 5.5 LZ shafts which have more weight towards the grip.

Even after a long session I was hitting them long, high, and within a very tight dispersion range.

Another session on the short game area came up with the following SM7 combination: 46.10 F; 50.12 F; 54.10 S; 58.12 D. All in the custom Raw finish and I'm having them stamped up too. A 4-6 week wait but it'll be worth it.

Really looking forward to getting all of these in the bag and on to the course.

Titleist can't be faulted for their service levels they're truly exceptional, thanks again Ben.

Interesting that you've got a Vokey as your PW, what was the gap like between the 46* SM7 and the TMB 9 Iron?

Yes I was keen to get 4 Vokey's in the bag and the gap was 13 yards so it's more or less perfect.
