Morning Fog

Matt W

Just wanted to share a photo from my local course this morning. What an interesting round with the each group yelling back at the next one to give the green light to hit. Has anybody else played in that?

    Hi Matt,
I sure have! The Toronto Hunt Club back when I was in my late teens. The course is right on the Scarborough Bluffs bordering lake Ontario. A 7AM tee time on a calm day could result in thick fog just like your picture. The first hole was a dog leg to the right. One morning, the fog was so bad that we too had to give groups the green light when the fairway was clear.
    Safety first! ;)

    Thanks for sharing.
    Cheers,
    Mitch

I remember playing a round in the morning in Scotland at North Berwick where the "harr" had rolled in from the sea and it was so bad I had no idea where to hit the ball. The locals would point and tell me how far I should hit it and you simply had to trust your swing. It was funny when they would say "Just don't go right because it drops off to the ocean" yet all you could see 50 yards in front of you was more fog :)

Here on the West Coast of Canada, I have had the luxury of playing a course early morning in the fog :) And we too yelled the all clear when it was safe to hit. I quite enjoyed it as it seemed to amplify the comaraderie amongst the many groups

Yes getting to be that time of the year. The first group off will take one of the air horns and give a blast once you past the 150 marker on the first hole. We leave it on the 150 for each group following until you can see.

Anyone who has played golf on the East Coast knows exactly what you are talking about. It is a great test of golf if you hit your clubs straight, and know your distances, you can walk right to your ball. If you don't hit it straight, it can be an adventure.
