    Hey all,

I've had a lay off from golf for a while due to a bad back. Now back playing and the swing has gone too flat.

Anyone got any good drills for getting rid of the flat swing, or does anyone know of any good aids that can help with this?

    Thanks

Practice your lead shoulder tucking under your chin at the top of your backswing...I've struggled with similar issues and this helped. Best of luck out in the course!

Depends what you mean by too flat you haven't said whether it's affected your golf. When I first started playing golf (many moons ago) my swing was flat. I started with a 15 handicap without any lessons. I soon realised that if I wanted to be a better player then I should start to have a lesson. The first thing the pro did was to get me to swing more upright, this I found to be very difficult and no matter how much I persevered my golf got worse. So I decided to have another lesson, this time with the assistant pro he told me that I had a natural flat swing and to work with it after a couple of fixes I ended up with a natural draw shape. Within 18 months I was down to a 5 handicap. Since then I've learnt that a flat swing is better for your back, If you watch the pro's you will see a lot of them have a flat swing. So if your golf isn't affected by a flat swing then stick with it.

    Charles,

Not sure what you mean by flat or is it too much on the inside?

I fell into the habit of swinging around my body on the inside but a lesson sorted me out (see Golf Monthly July 18) ...

But then again there have been some great players such as Ian Woosnam who's swing isn't so textbook...

    good luck

A flat swing works for a lot of people. I think a lesson may be in order due to your back issues and having to make some adjustments.
