I read an article in Golf magazine about Club Champion and their unique fitting experience and am wondering if anyone here has been to them for a fitting. They are supposed to be opening a new location here in California and I'm thinking it's time to upgrade from my TM R11 driver.

I heard from a friend that they are primarily interested in convincing you that highly customized clubs with unique combinations of shafts and heads are necessary -- and they will custom build them. I was told that he per club charge got stupid.

I would go to a Titleist Thursday fitting first. The fitter is a proven fitter and there is no cost. And, you get fit for the best equipment in the industry!!

I went to a Golf Digest Best Fitter in my state and it was the best golf fitting experience I have ever had. I hit balls for almost two hours going through my bag and generated 19 pages of data on my current clubs and potential future clubs. The cost was not that much and I had an eye opening experience on shaft flex and clubs that have led me to shoot much lower scores. I did not answer your question but I recommend anyone to go to a fitter that offers a similar experience like Club Champion.

I'll echo Steve N's comments. While I haven't been there, I've been told the same. They are looking to improve your numbers on the launch monitor for sure (and hopefully lowering your scores). But the per club costs get INSANE because its always an exotic shaft and they suggest all kinds of addons, etc. So the fitting is good and you get your data when done. But ends up being more pricey than most locations.

First remark has made me suspicious. Sort of like that offer for a free club in the mail.
  6. I went to Club Champion for full bag fitting in Jan, 2017. They had 50% off promotion for full bag between Nov - Jan. They use trackman to monitor shots and club fitter suggest various head and shaft combinations. At the end of fitting, club fitter suggest spec for driver, irons, etc... and they price it out the cost to build custom clubs and it is little pricey. However, they are not forcing you to build/buy through them. Experience was very pleasant and I would recommend.

This is what I did, I got the fitting from Club Champion, then with the spec that I received, I custom ordered Titleist AP1 through Dicks. It was lucky that Titleist provided the shaft that I got fitted and I was able to ask for specific swing weight.

I haven't been - they have an opinion about why to get fit indoors, and I don't see how you can get the best fit for your swing without real turf interaction. So we agree to disagree on the business model. I was fitted for driver at Oceanside, and besides the best people with all the Titleist shafts, there is no comparison to learning from the ball flight as opposed to thinking you know what the ball is doing by watching a big screen TV with a pro-tracer.
  8. i agree with Steve N, had a friend go for a full bag fitting. By the time he walked out he was looking at $3000 for irons, wedges and fw. It was crazy, they convinced him to get shafts pured also, he is a 12 handicap...be carefull
  9. I recently went and got fitted for a new TS3 with a project X Even Flow Black shaft. The head was the standard price of $499 and the shaft was $365.

It was my first time ever getting fitted so I don’t have a lot of past experience to go on. That being said, I was looking to be fitted for what was best for my swing. I didn’t go in wanting a Titleist driver, hoping yes, but not expecting. I would say, if you are open to being fitted for the best driver for your specific swing, then go check them out. If you merely want to get fitted for only a Titleist driver, then go to a Titleist fitter. Club Champion has 35,000 different combinations with club heads and shafts. There will be a combo there that’s perfect for your swing.

Going back in the spring for iron fitting and putter fitting. Tho I’ll never get rid of my Scotty Cameron.
  10. The Club Champion thing scares me. I've got back into playing after about a 5 year layoff. I've had the same irons (DCI 990s) since they came out and FINALLY want to get something fitted to ME. The time of year I've decided to do this sucks, as there's really no Titleist fitting events in my area (Pittsburgh) anymore, and I'm itching to get fitted. I have a friend that works at a club that says they can order me any clubs I want at their cost...which would be sweet...but I'm stuck either waiting til the Spring or going to a Club Champion/GolfTEC for a fitting.

In my area (well 30 miles away) there are 2 GolfTECs and 1 Club Champion. I've already called the closest GolfTEC and they don't carry Titleist irons (Oh, yeah...I'm a lefty). The Club Champion says they do (via email), but after reading the 'horror stories' of exotic shaft upgrades, etc. I was already greeted with a '...well even though you can get clubs through X, we custom make your irons blah blah blah and choose the best shafts blah blah'. I get it, they want to sell you the clubs, and I am perfectly fine with just saying NO...I'm just leery of how they will be if I go in there saying "Look, I JUST want to get fit for Titleist irons, no CRAZY shafts, etc."

While I technically don't hold any brand affiliation, and I realize there are other manufacturers out there with decent irons, I wonder how they would approach someone with my stance. I've only ever used Titleist irons. I've never hit a Titleist driver, both due to none of my friends being left handed, or local stores like Dick's, etc. NEVER having more than a handful of left handed clubs on hand.

Oh well, we will see. I saw this thread and it sparked my need to ask/vent about my upcoming dilemma!
  11. I have been going to Club Champion since 2017 and their process and the clubs I purchased have changed my game to a handicap of 5. Their system does work but it is still about the feel of the club. In the past year, their service has went from great to PATHETIC, and I 'm not going to put you through the pain of reading it. One of my issues is I purchased my first Titleist Scotty Cameron putter which is amazing in February 2020, and I am still trying to get an explanation as to why I was sold a 2018 head, 2017 weights, a shaft with no label and we still can't locate the serial number until we remove the grip. (Shortage of authentic Scott Cameron grips)

My advice if you do go their, make sure you understand the TrackMan process and what each number means on the screen. Something that happen to me was my loft needs needs to be +2 and they only made the adjustment to 1/2 of my set with no explanation as to why. I agree with other comments that going to manufactured sponsored fittings is good because if you believe is a certain brand, they can fit you to a club that will improve your game. I am a loyal Titleist follower and love their product.

The issue with chains like Club Champion is the quality of fitters varies by location. I went to the one in Westminster, CO and had a horrible experience. I hit 75 balls, tried 6 different shafts and at the end none of them were even close to being a good fit for my swing. I believe the Trackman was struggling to pick up the ball correctly as well as it was registering ball speeds less than my clubhead speed on some shots. The lighting in the bay was poor as well.

I had the exact opposite experience at D'Lance in Denver and ended up getting a great fit because the fitter was much more experienced and understood how to read the numbers and assess my swing. I also picked up over 5 mph of clubhead speed without any additional effort over my current set due to how poor of a fitting I had at GolfTec 4 years prior.

I would suggest posting on wolfwrx or hackersparadise and getting feedback from people in your area that had good experiences. It made a world of difference for me.

Never used them. Have two Titleist certified fitters in my area with over thirty years experience. One is a Product Specialist with Titleist and he does the Titleist Thursdays at a range and also demos at clubs around the area. The other has been in the business for 33 years, owns his own business is certified by Titleist plus other major brands, has three fitting bays in his shop and to see him, it takes about eight weeks to get an appointment for a fitting. Both are the best in our state and are well respected and do outstanding fittings. Will not recommend new equipment unless you need it and it show improvement. That is how they have built their reputation. Only guys I trust.
  14. A guy I knew went , and was fit for a set of png irons with steel shafts at a $60 upgrade per club. He got zero credit for the stock shafts, and was not given the stock shafts. Personally, I prefer to be fit outside so I can see the ball flight.

I have been to Club Champion for a couple of driver fittings over the years. I have no complaints about my experience at either fitting.

The club prices were the same as big box retail stores
Just be prepared with a budget in mind for the shaft upgrade
They did not force me to buy the more expensive shafts; instead they gave me a few options of shafts in a different price ranges to pick from.

I do agree with Inferno2ss about the experience of the actual fitter. The fitter is a large part of your experience and quality of your fitting.
  16. I had an iron fitting at one in Massachusetts and had a horrible experience. I may be biased but I will never go to one again.

Some of the things I had issues with:

Was pressured on buying clubs immediately
    Very limited shaft selection
    No GC quad (indoor fitting)
    Still uses lie boards

Hope this helps. If it’s youre only option I would highly recommend checking the location out beforehand.
