Hi everyone! Well, this past week on the West Coast saw a fair bit of rain, cloud and cooler temperatures (6-8 Celsius) with little opportunity to play. So I spent a couple of days at the practice range instead - trying to keep "limber" and "loose" in regards to my swing.

Well, as luck would have it, I was finishing up a short practice session and after a fairly dry morning, the weather broke, with some sunshine and cloudy periods. So, I headed down the road to a short golf course to get in a quick 18 - happy with my good fortune!

I had checked in my bag for golf balls and realized that I had a sleeve of Competitor golf balls in optic yellow and only 1 Pro V1 golf ball (I normally like the Pro V1x balls - but hadn't restocked by bag). The long and short of the story is that on the 18th - I hit a nice tee shot and had a relatively short 118 yards to the pin. (yes it was a relatively short par 4).

I stepped up and with lots of green to work with, hit a low shot with check up type of spin. The ball hit the green and looked like it was going to stop dead on the green - pin high. Unfortunately, it did not, it slowed a touch but just ran out and off the back side of the green. I was crestfallen - I normally hit that shot very well and was counting on it in this situation. So, determinedly, I dropped my only Pro V1 down from the same spot and hit the same shot, with the same swing, club, etc. and lo and behold, the ball stopped as intended with the spin that I knew would be there.

Walking to the green, it just made me think that I wanted to share this experience with my friends here on TT -- even though the Competitor golf balls was a premium grade ball, it did not perform the same as my Pro V1 -- when I needed it to.

Instead of putting for birdie, I had to chip up and scramble for a par - a lucky par at that. The moral of the story here - for me at least, is that the Pro V1/Pro V1x balls provided me with the consistency, spin, and control that I want and need to score well.

Dino - a great story and a true way to verify why we play what we play.
Every year I take the time to at least go out and play nine holes with two balls. My ProV and a competitor. There is no question that some of the competitor balls come close, but I cannot see me changing any time soon. Especially when the round has some level of importance tied to it.
Thanks for the post ! Keeps us all thinking :)
