Have you tested or been fit for new 917 Metals yet?  We want to hear your feedback.

What did you think of the overall sound, feel and ball flight?
    How did your performance improve?
Do you have launch monitor data to share?

We look forward to hearing from you as always.

    Cheers,

    Hey Mitch...
I did get the chance to try out the 917 Driver during a fitting on 9/17 thanks to the generosity of Titleist and the club pro at St. Andrews Valley.

My results were interesting in that with my existing shaft from my 913 D2 in the 917 showed not difference in ball flight. However once we found the right shaft, I definitely gained some yardage. The sound was a little more solid, but the feel was very much the same to me.

Unfortunately I did not receive a copy of the Trac Man data following the fitting, but I did get the specifics on the shaft and weighting needed so that I can order a new 917 D2 some time next season :)

    Bragg Creek,

I'm not going to be to popular in this thread, especially with two TT Canada stalwarts already posting, but I've gone back to my 910 with the Rogue Silver 70X I was fitted for in my 915.

As far as history goes. I moved from a 905 to a 907D2. After skipping on the 909 because I hit the 907 so well, I literally bought the 910 with a PL Red at my fitting after 5 swings. The 910 may be the best driver ever made.

I was fitted for a 915 and was impressed by the numbers and absolutely hated the sound. But I took it to the course anyway and enjoyed some success with it, but it actually failed to lap the 910. When I tried that Rogue in the 910, it was all over. Close the case, it's the best driver any manufacturer has ever made.

I did try the 917, and the sound and feel are better than the 915 but ALL of my longest drives are still with the 910 and it feels and sounds better (And looks better behind the ball) than anything else. My trackman numbers from that 910 are hard to beat man.

Trevor - Thanks for sharing your trackman display. I am truly envious :)
What it tells me is that whatever one's accomplishments in this game we all continue on trying to improve. That incessant "Never ending pursuit of IT"
Here I am with a club-head speed of 92 trying to reach 260yds with roll out, and you with a club head speed of 117 and 305 yds of carry and we are both looking to see if we can improve :)
I am so pleased we have a brand like Titleist that gives us the opportunity to advance our skills and share our experiences.
You simply have to love this game :)

Hi everyone: I now have had a chance to play a couple rounds with my new 917 D3 and 917 F3 metals. The short is that I love them both, thank you Titleist for putting the solid thud sound back in the driver, and for whatever reason, the 3 metal looks easier to get airborne, resulting in confidence and good shots. I must admit, I used to layup by mistake with my old 3 metal, not anymore, this think takes off high and far, every time. The driver is magic, played in calm and windy conditions, and was able to control ball flight easily with tee height. Consistency in direction and distance, was amazing, I am pretty sure the other 3 guys in the group will be going for a fitting soon, although 2 of them are a little poorer. (one was my partner) TITLEIST not just for better player, but player who want to be better.

Scott... Congratulations on your new acquisition !

I am curious what driver you replaced with the 917 D3, and if you did the switch to gain yardage, gain control, or both ?
Also - If you did gain yards off the tee, approximately how much ?

My hope was to gain at least 10 yards over my 913 D2, and managed to find that during the fitting process while maintaining my accuracy. I would love to hear what you found :)

@Scott D. -- Hey Scott ... the 917 F3 sounds very promising. What was your previous 3 wood? I currently have the 915 F3 in the bag (along with the D2). I have come to really like my Titleist F3.

You also indicated that you have been hitting it well off of the tee ... my question is how have you found it for hitting off of the turf/fairway?

Like you, I also have no hesitation using the F3 off the tee box when it is called for.

I went for a fitting for the 917 Driver D2. I am playing a 915 regular shaft and was fitted by a Titleist rep. After about 50 balls I was pleased with the 105 club head speed and height and spin rate with the D2 10.5. I was hitting a slight draw. I went back to my 915 and all the readings were similar to the 917. We tried a few different weights and no improvements. Unfortunately the dealer only had 2 regular shafts for me to try. I am 62 with a 3.3 differential and will switch to the 917 if I can see some improvement.

Robert - It is a shame you did not get a chance to work with some different shafts. You will note in my review of my fitting that I saw zero difference between my 913D2 and the 917D2 until we slipped in the Speeder shaft. Like you - I am 61. My index is 4.9 and I was only looking to invest if the difference was sufficient. Once we slipped in the Speeder, I gained yardage. I should have tried that shaft in my 913 to see if it would make a difference :)

    Lethbridge,

Our course is now closed and they are trapping the greens. We can however go out on temps. I have now received my new 917D2. Safe to say that I have been hitting it on the course. It feels great the and preforms beautifully nice high draw even with the found ball that I am using. Next week the Pro V's will be going in the bag for my yearly trip to Nevada. Can not wait to hit the the 917 on an open course and watch it perform as it did during the fitting.

As an aside and because I am a southpaw our course has not received the 3 wood heads so I can have a fitting. Oh well I know what club I will be purchasing next year.
