  1. Considering some new wedges and was curious about the Raw finish. A few questions: 1) is the lack of glare the only reason why the tour players love it? 2) I heard that these are not the same "Raw" finish that the Tour players get, why? 3) who has them and why do you like them? 4) How long do they take to rust?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I do not have them, but I know people that have them. I like the look of them and yes, the glare is not a problem to you if you have them. Everyone that has them says they love them, but the black will turn to a sort of silvery finish on the face after you use them for a while.
  3. Is that the same as steel grey? I have steel grey and love them. No glare great look very good spin
  4. The finish is a very dull finish so yes it helps relative to glare however I have the tour chrome also in the SM6 and do not have any problems with glare. They bend easier than some finishes and they can be a slightly different head design that is perceived smaller by some. Also one can grind them more easily for making those adjustment pros are used to getting, for instance when Bob Vokey made my last set of RAW wedges we made the topline thinner and did all sorts of things that one could not as easily do with the Tour Chrome or Black finishes without disturbing the finish itself. These wedges are the same wedges pros get, the only difference is the final grinds and subtle changes. Hope that helps!

I have played with all sorts of finishes on my vokey wedges and at the end of the day (even for a very particular player like myself) the RAW is nice but I still prefer the tour chrome. IMHO

I've replaced my "raw finish" wedges with nickel finish wedges. The raw steel rusts and that rust gets all over everything. I found myself using naval jelly to remove the rust every month or so. What a pain.
  6. Thank you so much for the responses......very helpful! I think I will probably pass on the Raw finish as its just too much of an unknown entity having not seen it in person. I don't mind old looking things, but I'm not sure I want to look down at rust. I do like that you can order them through Titleist online and don't have to worry about going through a 3rd party. If there is a mistake its because you entered the wrong info. I wish they did that for the regular finish wedges as well.

I do not use the Raw finish but I know a few guys who do. They like the fact that they rust over time and they say it increases the spin. So, depending on how much you spin the ball already, this may be a good thing or a not so good thing. Personally I don't like the rusty look.

The raw finish is simply a lack of a plating finish. Its the absence of a finish. The aesthetic characteristics are quite a bit more pleasing than the tour chrome and other plated finishes. There was also rumors about the lack of finish being a surface that offers a little bit more friction especially when it develops a patina (which could make it easier to spin/control the ball by a small amount).

I have found that you either like the raw finish or you don;t, there is not a lot of middle space. Personally, I like the raw finish and when the club becomes rusted. I guess maybe it reminds me of the first clubs I had when I started to play that were raw steel and a rusty brown.

To give you an idea of the before an after on the wedges, I included a picture of the same wedge new out of the box and after being in my bag for 6 months. the clubs do not always rust as rapidly but this time included a trip to Ireland where the wet, salt air accelerated the process.

I have tried both the raw and 'semi' -- raw is a mess with the rust; glare isn't a problem with my Volkey wedges .... keeping the grooves 'open'; blasting the face once a year; == Titleist wedges are the best when fitted ...
  11. It is not a problem of "arrows or bows", it is always the archer that makes the difference! Buy the ones you like more; I've got the black finish and I love them....
