  1. Hi Guys

Currently i am working on my swing in my garage over the winter, looking to get fit for new irons in the spring.

I got some impact tape and noticed i tend to hit the ball on the heel, even ones that feel  good are hit more towards the heel.

A far as up and down the club face it tends to be in the middle, but i certainly tend to hit the ball on the heel.

My question is how much of a heel miss can be fixed with lie angle, club length adjustments.

the clubs i currently use are straight of the shelf 20 year old clubs. i am wondering if i need to spend time working on middle of the clubface contact, or if this can simply be solved with adjustments, and i can spend time working on other things.

    thanks

    Shawn

Never underestimate the benefits of a good club fitting...

However - I too suffered a similar problem for a while last year and this was my second full year with my fitted irons.

After having a good friend (and great golfer) watch me on the range for a while, it turns out that I was adding a little more lower body movement than normal likely in an effort to get more power into the swing. As a result of my hips moving too quickly, they got ahead of my arms causing my right arm to swing out just enough to move the club face outwards which resulted in me hitting closer to the heel. Slowing down my hip rotation and keeping the right elbow in help alleviate the issue.

Good luck in your travels through the never ending pursuit of IT  :)

    Hi Shawn K,

Heel strikes can be caused by irons that are too long.  Try gripping down to see if that helps.  If not, I would think it may be swing related.

*A swing path that it too in to out can cause heel strikes as well.

    Thanks,

    Chris
